10-13-2008 (Library) Minutes Library Advisory Board CITY OF WYLIE Library Board--Minutes Monday, October 13, 2008 — 7:00 pm Bluebonnet Room Smith Public Library 800 Thomas Street Wylie, Texas 75098 CALL TO ORDER Announce the presence of a Quorum. Members present: Grace Morrison, Shirley Burnett, Lucy Shriver, Junaid Najamuddin, Rachel Orozco (Board Liaison) Members absent: Eric LeJeune, David James, Courtney Gober CITIZENS COMMENTS ON NON-AGENDA ITEMS Residents may address Board regarding an item that is not listed on the Agenda. Residents must provide their name and address. Board requests that comments be limited to three (3) minutes. In addition, the Board is not allowed to converse, deliberate or take action on any matter presented during citizen participation. PRESENTATION Grace Morrison briefly reviewed the School Library Bond package. ACTION ITEMS 1. The Library Board Minutes of Monday, September 8, 2008 were approved. 2. The City of Wylie Fines and Fees Ordinance will be updated in the near future. The library staff has reviewed the extended use fees and other fees and made some changes. Fees added are primarily for materials that are damaged. Replacements include barcodes, book jackets, and labels. The staff recommends changing the extended use fee for DVDs from $1.00 to .50. The library staff has created an invoice form to give to patrons with extended use fees and other fees. October 13,2008 Library Advisory Board Regular Meeting Agenda Page 2 of 2 DISCUSSION ITEMS The meeting room policy was discussed. Rachel felt that the meeting room policy was too vague. The Library Board members agreed that the policy was not specific enough. They were concerned that the responsibility fell on the library staff to make decisions. Rachel explained that the City Attorney left it open and that the parameters were based on the hours of operation. STAFF REPORTS Rachel passed out information about ReferenceUSA and MyLibraryDV and explained those services. The library book sale was successful from a public relations standpoint. The Friends will be evaluating whether to have another one next year. OTHER ITEMS ADJOURNMENT The meeting was adjourned at 7:50 p.m. Grace Morrison,President Date
