PRESENTATION
ACTION ITEMS
1. The Library Board Minutes of Monday, February 9, 2008 were approved.
DISCUSSION ITEMS
Junaid Najamuddin read the Naming Rights Policy aloud so that Library Board members
could edit and make recommendations.
Questions:
Why have we not included sizes of plaques? It has not been decided yet.
Is the first paragraph necessary? "New Smith Public Library" limits it. It was decided to
not limit it to just the new library. It was decided to leave the Friends at the
beginning of the policy and describe what they do for the library.
February 9,2009 Library Advisory Board Regular Meeting Agenda Page 2 of 2
A question was asked if we should include not just "generosity" but "accomplishments" as
well. This is covered when the policy states that a donor can recognize someone
who has made extraordinary accomplishments.
In-kind: needs to be hyphenated.
Will the levels be determined before the policy is complete: The policy will remain
general. It was explained that Mindy Manson, City Manager, will be informed of possible
donors. Ms. Manson will then report to Mayor and Council.
What about using bricks? This has been reviewed by library staff with architects. It
was decided to not use bricks.
Rachel will incorporate edits and send to the City Attorney
STAFF REPORTS
Rachel passed out the newsletter. She announced the Kristine Kahanek event. Rachel passed
out the monthly report.
Grace reported that the Friends Chocolate Fest was a successful event. The Mayor,
- Councilwoman Kathy Spillyards and former Mayor John Mondy were also present.
Approximately 70 people attended.
Shirley Burnett reported on the Library Supporters Conference sponsored by NETLS. Most of
the seminars concentrated on non-profit boards rather than the Library Advisory Boards. She
said that the legal session was interesting.
Grace Morrison passed around a report on the session that explained the difference between
Advisory Boards, Governing Boards, and Friends. She also explained that the Library Board
may assist with the long range planning. She asked the board members to feel free to bring up
