A vote was taken and the motion passed unanimously WORK SESSION WS1. 2021 shelter events and status. (S. Patton, ASAB Board Member) Shelia Patton reports the Monthly Low-Cost Clinic will no longer take place due to a much-deserved retirement of Dr. Woods. He provided service to the community monthly for at least 15 years. The facility was able to partner with Texas Coalition for Animal Protection to provide a quarterly low-cost vaccination program at the shelter.A post has been made on social media. Jeff Forrester stated he checked the city website and it needs to be updated. Amber Porter confirmed she has seen the posting on the shelter's Facebook page. Seventy seven animals received pre-adoption veterinary services. Vet care for an additional twenty-six injured or diseased stray animals was provided by staff transport to local veterinary clinics. Eighteen stray and/or abandoned animals have been assisted by the foster program. Pet of the week twice monthly with Wylie News continues. Participation during Facebook live with Mayor continues to feature an adoptable pet and information related to shelter animal availabilities. Minutes November 17,2021 Animal Shelter Advisory Board Page 2 4 12/08/2021 Item 1. The shelter adoption is still operating with restrictions. There continues to be a shortage of staff. Open positions continue to be posted with applicants listing min pay requirements exceeding that of position. The shortage of the Wylie team is not unique to the current labor industry related to animal care. The shelter staff has experienced a shortage beyond unfilled positions due to injuries and family leave circumstances. This has left the team to operate with only two full duty Animal Services Officers. Clear the Shelter was once again a virtual campaign. Wylie adopted 18 animals toward the campaign. All cats were adopted and four dogs remained. The four dogs require special housing conditions as they need continued training. One of the four still remain with the shelter and the most recent was adopted after more than 300 days in care. It is crucial to find the perfect forever placement for some animals. We fully anticipated having these four long timers at the end of the campaign due to our desire to have a successful permanent home. Jeff Forrester asks when Animal Services will be presenting their department presentation to the council. Shelia Patton stated she or Lt. Miller will have to get that information to the board. The board does report on its activities by following city ordinance to submit all items accepted and placed on file by board vote to the city council. ADJOURNMENT Motion was made by Dr. Brad Abraham and seconded by Jeff Forrester to adjourn the meeting. With no further business before the board, the consensus of the board was to adjourn at 7:09 pm.
