AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF WYLIE, TEXAS, AMENDING THE CODE OF
ORDINANCES, APPENDIX A, "ZONING", SPECIFICALLY SECTION 27. SIGN
REGULATIONS; AND REPEALING ALL CONFLICTING ORDINANCES;
CONTAINING A SEVERABILITY CLAUSE; AND PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE
DATE:
WHEREAS, the Planning and Zoning Commission, after first having given all requisite
notices, by publication and otherwise, and conducting all requisite hearings thereon, has
recommended to the City Council that the request for a change in the text of the Zoning
Ordinance, more specifically "Section 27. Sign Regulations" be granted; and,
WHEREAS, the City Council has heretofore conducted a public hearing on the
proposed change and determined that the change should be granted;
WHEREAS, the City Council has determined, in its legislative capacity, that the
proposed change is appropriate and after public hearings required by law, amend, supplement,
or change the regulations in the Zoning Ordinance;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF WYLIE, TEXAS, as follows:
SECTION I
Section 27.1 Definitions be amended to include a definition of "Sign, Weekend Directional.
Temporary non-illuminated signs erected within the City right-of-way for the sole purpose of
providing directional instructions to the locations of developments or subdivisions. "
SECTION II
Section 27.20 Temporary Signs be amended to add a section:
i) Weekend Directional Signs: Weekend directional signs may be installed in the City
right-of-way between the hours of noon Friday through 9:00 pm Sunday. A Holiday falling on
Friday of Monday will be considered a part of the weekend and an additional day will be
granted before or after the weekend as applicable. Such signs must not be placed in the
median of any street or thoroughfare and must be placed at least two (2) feet from the edge
of the curb, pavement, or sidewalk. A maximum face size of four (4) sq. ft. and a maximum
height of thirty-six (36") inches is allowed. Such signs must be placed a minimum of fifty (50')
feet from any street intersection and twenty-five (25') feet from any alley or curb cut and must
not block or obscure visibility of any traffic, pedestrian, safety sign or signal, or be located in
any visibility triangle. Like signs must be spaced one thousand (1000') feet in a straight line
from each other unless the signs offer different direction. Weekend directional signs must be
made of a durable, weather-resistant material and be kept in good repair. Vehicles used to
install such signs must have a flashing yellow light, a reflective sign warning of frequent stops,
and a standard slow moving vehicle triangle visible displayed to the rear. The vehicle may use
only the right-hand lane. The persons installing or removing the signs must wear reflective
vests at all times. No signs shall be placed or picked up after the hours of 9:00 pm.

Any sign in violation of any provision of this section will be impounded by the City of Wylie. If
three (3) violations occur in one ninety (90) day period by the same permit holder, the permit
may be revoked for up to a maximum of six (6) months. Repeat violations, after a suspension,
may result in a ban for up to twelve (12) months. A fee of twenty-five ($25) dollars per sign
shall be paid to the City of Wylie at the time the signs are returned to the owner. Signs
unclaimed after 10 days will be disposed of.
SECTION III
Any person violating the provisions of this ordinance, or any part hereof, commits an unlawful
act and shall be subject to the general penalty provisions of Section 38 of the Zoning
Ordinance, as the same now exists or is hereafter amended.
SECTION IV
Should any paragraph, sentence, sub-division, clause, phrase or section of this ordinance be
adjudged or held to be unconstitutional, illegal or invalid the same shall not affect the validity
of this ordinance as a whole or any part or provision thereof, other than the part or parts as
declared to be invalid, illegal, or unconstitutional.
SECTION V
This ordinance shall be in full force and effect from and after its adoption by the City Council
and publication of its caption as the law and the City Charter provide in such cases.
SECTION VI
That all other ordinances and code provisions in conflict herewith are hereby repealed to the
extent of any such conflict or inconsistency and all other provisions of the Wylie City Code not
in conflict herewith shall remain in full force and effect.
SECTION VII
The repeal of any ordinance, or parts thereof, by the enactment of this Ordinance, shall not
be construed as abandoning any action now pending under or by virtue of such ordinance; nor
shall it have the effect of discontinuing, abating, modifying or altering any penalty accruing or
to accrue, nor as effecting any rights of the municipality under any section or provisions of any
ordinances at the time of passage of this ordinance.
