Ehrlich, Public Arts Advisory Board Coordinator)
Board Discussion
PAC Ehrlich reported that she had been in contact with Artist Terrance Martin and he had determined that
at the present time, due to transportation and shipping, aluminum was in short supply. He has suggested in
lieu of using aluminum, he would purchase stainless steel for the towers. She explained that would be a
difference in weight which the design will have to take into account however the material was very sturdy
and the appearance would be very similar to the aluminum.
She asked the board to consider the change.Board members were in agreement with the change stating that
the cost for stainless steel was generally more expensive than the aluminum and it would withstand the
elements. Board member Null asked that the difference in weight be addressed by the artist to the engineer
preparing the design drawings.
Board Action
A motion was made by board member Courtney, seconded by board member Schwerin to approve the
change in material from aluminum to stainless steel for the two twin towers in the Fire Station#4 Public
Art Project. A vote was taken and the motion passed 5-0 with board members Bellah and Bediako absent.
