City Manager; Lindsay Buhler, Councilmember; Steven Baxter ●City of Lavon: Vicki Samson, Mayor Meeting Minutes ●Dr. Day welcomed members. ●Dr. Vinson established the purpose of the collaboration -- to get and give input for decisions impacting the community. ●Dr. Vinson discussed youth recreational activities. No city feedback or concerns. ●Dr. Vinson discussed the use of the tennis courts at Wylie HS and how they are overcrowded. Dr. Spicer shared a badge-in system used for an extracurricular program in Royse City. Renee Ollie mentioned that this would be similar to another Wylie program. Mayor Porter discussed creating a QR code for entry. ●Dr. Vinson introduced traffic issues and planning. ○Mayor Bickerstaff - phase 2 of Sachse Road expansion approved; Merritt Road is a joint project (Dallas Co, Collin Co, etc). Pickleball courts coming to Jackson Park. ●Mayor Porter gave the Wylie update. ○Country Club & 544 - Feb. 16-18 closed ○McMillen S Curve - to be complete in 2025 ○544 South - dirt start moving; allen east & 544 light coming ○Stone Road - will start this year ○Park Loop extension to be starting by Collin County ○Eubanks (north of 78) - railroad will close the road for railwork ○Park Road - summer 2024 start ●Dr. Vinson discussed talking with Sheriff Skinner regarding parent traffic sitting on county roads near WEHS. ●Asst. Chief of Police Walters discussed a fence along Bennett Road to deter students crossing over to Bennett Road. ●Walters discussed the need to be brought into traffic stacking planning for Kreymer Elementary. Scott Williams mentioned that he could be brought in to the planning process on the city side when Fire is brought in. ●Walters said that he will not have the two new SROs available next school year, due to staffing crunch. (Draper and backfill of Wilkins at High) He said his first priority is to cover the streets, then the schools. ●Mayor Samson ○78 & 205 TX DOT Project ○Working on getting rid of asphalt and replacing with concrete ○8000 population ○Starbucks, Scrubby’s Car Wash and Specs have all broken ground ○ICS Conference brought many interested ●City Manager Aretha Adams introduced herself--day 4 on the job! She also introduced Jeff Gibson, new Chief of Police ●Mayor Bickerstaff ○Medical City Sachse opened! ●Dr. Vinson discussed the impact of fentanyl in the community. He shared that we will be pushing more of our education on fentanyl in the next month. We covered it in the fall--as required by law. The district met with the Asst Attorney General Jay Combs to learn about the One Pill Can Kill program and they intend to bring it to both high schools. ●Matt Atkins thanked the cities for the partnerships and ended the meeting.
