Resolution 76-77-03-03 RESOLUTION NO. 76-77-3-3 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF WYLIE, TEXAS, EXPRESSING THEIR SUPPORT OF THE HIGHWAY FUNDING PROPOSAL MADE BY THE GOVERNOR OF TEXAS. WHEREAS, The highway system in the State of Texas is among the finest to be found in the entire United States; and WHEREAS, our highway system has contributed as much as any other single factor toward making our State a bright spot in the nation with respect to new industry and growth; and WHEREAS, our gasoline sales tax of five cents per gallon is the lowest in the United States; and WHEREAS, our highway system cannot be expanded in the rapidly growing areas of our State by present funding methods; and WHEREAS, Governor Dolph Briscoe, in his resolve not to increase taxes, has devised a plan which will provide for adequate maintenance and construction of much needed extensions to the highway system without an increase in taxes; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR OF THE CITY OF WYLIE, TEXAS: That the City of Wylie hereby endorses Governor Dolph Briscoe's plan of highway funding and recommends to the Senate and House of Representatives of the Texas Legislature that such plan be adopted and approved during the 65th Regular Session of the Texas Legislature, as a minimum method for providing financing of extensions to the current highway system, APPROVED this the P day of '7?7C<A-Ju , 1977.
