Resolution 00-08 RESOLUTION NO ~O()O - og~) A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF WYLIE, TEXAS, DECLARING THE RESULTS OF THE CANVASS FOR THE ELECTION RETURNS OF THE GENERAL ELECTION OF MAY 6, 2000; GENERAL ELECTION FOR THE PURPOSE OF ELECTING THREE MEMBERS OF THE WYLIE CITY COUNCIL, PLACES 2, AND 4 FOR A TERM OF THREE YEARS; AND THE MAYOR AND PLACE 6, FOR A TERM OF TWO YEARS. WHEREAS, The Wylie City Council of the City of Wylie, Texas (City) held a General Election on May 6, 2000 for the purpose of electing two members of the Wylie City Council for a term of three years; and the Mayor and Place 6 for a term of two years. WHEREAS, A Canvass of the General Election returns was conducted on May 9,2000. WHEREAS, It was found that the persons herein named received the following votes for said term of office on the Wylie City Council of the City of Wylie, Texas: MAYOR Catherine Butschek 308 John Mondy 416 Jim Swartz 180 COUNCIL PLACE 2 Reta Allen 645 COUNCIL PLACE 4 Merrill Young 639 COUNCIL PLACE 6 Chris Trout 610 Resolution No. Page 2 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF WYLIE, TEXAS: SECTION 1. In accordance with the Wylie Homerule Charter, Article V, Section 5 and Section 6, and in compliance with the Texas Election Code it will be necessary to conduct a runoff election for the position of Mayor. SECTION 2. Reta Allen is hereby declared to be elected Council Member Place 2. SECTION 3. Merrill Young is hereby declared to be elected Council Member Place 4. SECTION 4. Chris Trout is hereby declared to be elected Council Member Place 6. SECTION 6. The Wylie City Council hereby finds and determines, as a result of the Canvass, held on May 9,2000, that a combined Election Day and Early Vote total of921 votes were cast in the General Election, with 272 early voters, as indicated by the poll list for the General Election held on May 6,2000. SECTION 7. It is hereby declared that the City of Wylie approves and accepts the results of the General Election for, Mayor, Council Place 2,4, and 6 as set forth in the Order attached hereto as Exhibit A, as determined by the majority vote of the qualified voters of the City of Wylie and the necessity of a runoff election to determine the position of Mayor. SECTION 8. This Resolution will become effective after its passage by the Wylie City Council.
