11-25-1991 (Parks & Recreation) Minutes MINUTES REGULAR MEETING PARKS & RECREATION ADVISORY BOARD MONDAY, NOVEMBER 25 , 1991 The City of Wylie Parks and Recreaton Advisory Board met in regular session at 7 : 00 PM on Monday , November 25 , 1991 in the Council Chambers of the Municipal Complex at 2000 SH 78 N . , Wylie , Texas . A quorum was present and notice had been posted in the time and manner required by law. Members present were Charles Stetler , Peggy Sewell , B. J . Upshaw, Willie Calverly , Jerry Smith , Scott Brown and John Burns , Acting Chairman . Meeting was called to order by John Burns . ITEM NO. 1 - CONSIDER APPROVAL OF MINUTES FROM MEEING HELD ON MONDAY , OCTOBER 28 , 1991 : A motion was made by B. J . Upshaw to approve the minutes as submitted . Seconded by Willie Calverly. All in favor , motion carried . ITEM NO. 2 - CONSIDER ELECTION OF CHAIRMAN TO FILL UNEXPIRED TERM OF BRYAN GLENN: Scott Brown nominated John Burns , seconded by B. J . Upshaw. Peggy Sewell moved the nominations be closed . Vote as follows : 6 in favor of John Burns as Chairman of the Parks & Recreation Advisory Board , 0 opposed , 1 abstentian . ITEM NO. 3 - CONSIDER ELECTION OF VICE-CHAIRMAN: Charles Stetler nominated B. J . Upshaw to fill the office of Vice- Chairman . Seconded by John Burns . Peggy Sewell moved the nominations be closed , seconded by Willie Calverly. Vote as follows : 6 in favor of B. J . Upshaw as Vice-Chairman of the Parks & Recreation Advisory Board , 0 opposed , 1 abstentian . ITEM NO. 4 - UPDATES : a . ) National Fitness Campaign Exercise Equipment . Bill Nelson reported that the equipment has been installed ; however , he recommends postponing ribbon cutting and opening ceremonies until Spring . b . ) Dallas Parks Foundation Trees . Bill Nelson reported that the City will be receiving an assortment of trees including Live Oaks , Bradford Pears , and Bald Cypress . All trees will be used in Community Park . He also noted that these are not specimen trees but will be nice trees that will enhance the park . c . ) Women' s Garden Club Donation . The Wylie Women' s garden Club donated $ 50 . 00 to the Parks department to be used to buy a tree . Mr . Nelson reported that it will most likely be used to buy a Crepe Myrtle or Youpon Holly to be placed in a prominent place in Community Park. d . ) Bleachers , Cooking Grills , See-Saw, Bike Rack . Bill Nelson reported that he had ordered three ( 3) five row, 15 ft aluminum bleachers to be used between soccer and football fields and small ball diamond ; cost $2400 . Five ( 5 ) cooking grills , two for Community Park and three to be held for future installation at Valentine Park, have been ordered ; cost $450 . A six seat see-saw ( $700) to be installed at Community Park, has been ordered along with a bike rack ( $225) , which holds eighteen bicycles . ITEM NO. 5 - CITIZEN PARTICIPATION: None ITEM NO. 6 - ADJOURN: Chairman Burns announced there would be no meeting in December . Before adjournment , Chairman Burns asked if there were any items that members would like to have included on the next agenda . Mr . Burns stated that he would like to have updates on the winter work being done in the Parks . Scott Brown asked to see a financial update on the receipts from the concession stand. There being no further requests for agenda items , a motion was made and seconded that the meeting be adjourned . Chairman Burns adjourned the meeting .
