05-10-2010 (Library) Minutes Library Advisory Board CITY OF WYLIE q Library Board--Minutes Monday, May 10, 2010 — 7:00 pm Bluebonnet Room Smith Public Library 800 Thomas Street Wylie, Texas 75098 CALL TO ORDER Announce the presence of a Quorum. Members present: Bret Bim, Shirley Burnett, Grace Morrison, Mindy Ayers, Junaid Najamuddin, Courtney Gober, Rachel Orozco, (Board Liaison) Absent: Lucy Shriver CITIZENS COMMENTS ON NON-AGENDA ITEMS Residents may address Board regarding an item that is not listed on the Agenda. Residents must provide their name and address. Board requests that comments be limited to three (3) minutes. In addition, the Board is not allowed to converse, deliberate or take action on any matter presented during citizen participation. PRESENTATION ACTION ITEMS 1. The Library Board Minutes of Monday, April 12, 2010 was approved. DISCUSSION ITEMS Circulation Policy—changes were made to make the policy more clear in regards to the "New Cards— Adult" section. "An adult must present either..." The line "Materials may not be checked out by anyone under age 18 without the consent of a parent or guardian"has been deleted. Changed wording to "Library cardholders may checkout as many items as they wish within the exceptions listed above." Make sure that all money transactions have $ signs. Under "Renewals changed to "cannot be renewed rather than may not". Same change was made to the Exceptions policy under Renewals. Changed heading to "Damage, Theft, or Loss of Material" STAFF REPORTS January 11,2010 Library Advisory Board Regular Meeting Agenda Page 2 of 2 Rachel reported that staff will not receive raises and that there will be furlough days. There are various ways to do furlough days. The City Manager's office is still reviewing this. The fiscal year is October 1 through September 30. Budget meetings begin in June and go throughout the summer. Health insurance is likely to go up because the contract is up for renewal. The goal in the budget for FY 11 is to get the staff needed to keep the library open 46 hours. The following staff in the budget: Young Adult Librarian, Adult Reference Assistant, Library Technician (Full-time), Five, 20 hour part-time Reference Assistants, Two, 20 hour part-time clerks (shelvers) and a full-time Administrative Assistant. All clerical work is done by the Library Director, Technical Librarian, and a Library Technician. It was decided that everybody would contribute what they could to the library leaf for Frances Anderhub. Summer Reading Club starts June 1. The library is not having a Summer Reading Club Kick-off because of budget cuts. On July 16, the library is having a Mystery Night for the Adult Reading Club.
