Grace Morrison
ACTION ITEMS
1. Approval of the Minutes.
Minutes were approved as read from the May 10, 1999, meeting.
2. Discuss and Act Upon the Approval of the 4B budget.
Mignon detailed for the board the items she was asking for in the budget.
DISCUSSION ITEMS
3. Discuss Monthly Reports.
Reference questions and Internet usage continue to increase while the circulation
is a little below last year.
4. Discuss Study Room Computer.
The study room computer is constantly down or not working properly. The library
staff would like to delete the service. The board discussed the possibilities of
deleting the service, and asked the Library staff to keep statistics on usage and
problems through the next two months.
5. Discuss Summer Reading Club events.
The board reviewed the programs scheduled for Summer Reading Club which will
kick off on June 15, 1999. Participants will earn bucks and purchase prizes from
the Summer Reading Club store on Tuesdays after each of the programs.
6. Discuss Orientation Presentation for July Meeting.
The July Meeting has been moved to July 19. Grace suggested providing
information on annual events, grant resources, and an explanation of the role of the
Northeast Texas Library System. Mignon will provide a tour of the Library, demo of
online resources and web site. All board members will be given a notebook that
will include the board manual written by the Public Libraries Administrators of North
Texas and published by the Texas State Library.
NEW BUSINESS
Library Advisory Board members were encouraged to view the NETLS web site and
the City's web site. The City web site is being updated on a regular basis.
Mignon asked the board if they would volunteer to sale t-shirts at the July Jubilee
parade. We will sell shirts before and during the parade. Details will be provided
through email.
The circulation ordinance passed. The third letter has been written. Patrons are
being notified of the new ordinance with flyers inserted in the overdue notices. The
Wylie News published information in the June 15, 1999, edition.
Grace asked about starting more computer classes. One of the other board
members mentioned that the community education classes are offered through the
ISD. They have space and computers available. (On Tuesday, June 15, Mignon
checked about usage of the community center. It was decided that it would be
difficult to store computers there because of potential vandalism when they were
not being used. The best approach would be to work with the community
education department at the ISD to promote their classes.)
