04-13-1998 (Library) Minutes RITA & TRUETT SMITH LIBRARY BOARD BOARD MEETING The Library Board of the city of Wylie met in regular session on April 13 at the Library 7:00 p.m. The attendees were: Tom Proctor Shirley Burnett Mary Conely Liz Allen Gerry Whitt Christy Crimmins Call to Order 1. Approval of the Minutes. Minutes were approved as read from the March Meeting. 2. Discuss Quarterly Report and Statistical Increases. Mignon pointed out the statistical increases for the last six months. The Board was pleased with the increases. 3. Discuss Public Internet Access and Internet training. The Library is scheduled to begin providing public Internet access on April 20. However, there are problems with the Netconnect setup and the firewall. Dynix is working with Leon Isbell, Internet provider, to resolve the problems. They are moving rather slowly. The equipment was supposed to be operating properly on April 8. Carla Reik will be the Internet trainer and we hope to begin offering training in May. 4. Discuss National Library Week events. Linda Rohrbrough will be presenting a program on the Internet on April 21. The Friends are doing a fund-raiser to raise money for Summer Reading Club. Handouts will consist of bookmarks, brochures on the Internet, and magnets. 5. Discuss Library's Open House for Automation System and Internet Access. Entertainment will be provided by the Birmingham Choir, the Wylie Jazz Band, and Shelby Ball, soloist. The Friends are paying to publish a flyer from ALA and bookmarks to promote Internet usage. Magnets have been purchased that include the web site and library hours. Kathy Spillyards will set up the sound system that we are using from Wylie United Methodist Church. Brookshires is donating a cake and Wylie Supermarket is donating the ingredients for punch. New Business The Library received verbal confirmation of a grant from the Tocker Foundation for $15,000. Grant funds are for purchasing a CD-ROM tower and software. The Library had a computer crash last week on the computer in the study room that is used for word processing.
