Call to Order
1. Approval of the Minutes.
Minutes were approved as read from the March Meeting.
2. Discuss Quarterly Report and Statistical Increases.
Mignon pointed out the statistical increases for the last six months. The Board
was pleased with the increases.
3. Discuss Public Internet Access and Internet training.
The Library is scheduled to begin providing public Internet access on April 20.
However, there are problems with the Netconnect setup and the firewall. Dynix
is working with Leon Isbell, Internet provider, to resolve the problems. They are
moving rather slowly. The equipment was supposed to be operating properly on
April 8.
Carla Reik will be the Internet trainer and we hope to begin offering training in
May.
4. Discuss National Library Week events.
Linda Rohrbrough will be presenting a program on the Internet on April 21. The
Friends are doing a fund-raiser to raise money for Summer Reading Club.
Handouts will consist of bookmarks, brochures on the Internet, and magnets.
5. Discuss Library's Open House for Automation System and Internet Access.
Entertainment will be provided by the Birmingham Choir, the Wylie Jazz Band,
and Shelby Ball, soloist. The Friends are paying to publish a flyer from ALA and
bookmarks to promote Internet usage. Magnets have been purchased that
include the web site and library hours. Kathy Spillyards will set up the sound
system that we are using from Wylie United Methodist Church. Brookshires is
donating a cake and Wylie Supermarket is donating the ingredients for punch.
New Business
The Library received verbal confirmation of a grant from the Tocker Foundation
for $15,000. Grant funds are for purchasing a CD-ROM tower and software.
The Library had a computer crash last week on the computer in the study room
that is used for word processing.
