04-14-1997 (Library) Minutes RITA & TRUETT SMITH LIBRARY BOARD BOARD MEETING April 14, 1997 The Library Advisory Board and the Friends of the Library of the City of Wylie met in regular session on April 14, 1997, in the Library at 7:00 p.m. The attendees were: Leo Houck Gerry Whitt Liz Allen Mary Conely Cathy Bridges Shirley Burnett Pat Guess Call to Order 1. Approval of Minutes Minutes from the March 3, 1997 and March 27, 1997 (special called meeting) Library Advisory Board meeting were approved. 2. Library Renovation and 4B Budget The Construction company is still working on punch list items. However, there are only a few items remaining for them to do. There are still end panels on order to replace the ones that were too short. Counter tops are the wrong color and they will be replaced. Signage will be installed before the Grand Opening. 3. Discuss Quarterly Report. Mignon highlighted the fact the Library has experienced a 25% increase in circulation in the first six months of FY 97 compared to the same six months in FY 96. Members of the Library Advisory Board expressed a concern about the parking issues and vandalism. Mignon explained that there is a new parking lot being built which will help relieve some of the cars from the Library's parking lot. 4. Library Grand Opening on April 21, 1997 Mignon led a discussion of the details of the Grand Opening. She informed the Board of the changes made in the menu by the City Council. The Board Members are going to be assisting with Library tours, greeting citizens, and organizing the groups before the event. After the meeting was officially adjourned, Mignon provided the Board with a tour of the completely renovated facility. 5. National Library Week Events The theme for National Library Week is Kids Connect @ the Net. The Library will be hosting a program on April 15 on Kids and the Internet. Thursday, April 19, Elizabeth Ellis will be telling stories at the Library. 6. Library Web Page Leon Isbell, owner of Point of Presence, has a public forum on the internet entitled "Wylie Speaks." Leon has linked the local web pages to the forum, and one of those pages is the Library's web page. The City is working with the Economic Development Corporation and the Chamber of Commerce to form a web page. Requests for Proposals were sent out to local vendors in early April and are due back on April 25. The Library's web address is on the April newsletter. The meeting was adjourned at 8:45 p.m.
