Call to Order
1. Minutes from February 12, 1996, Library Advisory Board meeting were approved.
2. Election of Secretary.
After some discussion, nomination of Elizabeth Allen for recording secretary. Motion carried.
3. Consider Approval of Building Plan and Request For Proposal
Discussion of the Building Plan. Questions asked concerning the Literacy Rooms. Pat Guess
suggested the need for a table and not a desk. This allowed the instructor and the student to
work in a more relaxed and conductive manner. Suggestion also made for using portable walls.
Mignon said that possibly the rooms at the City Hall may also be available for the literacy program.
Mignon advised that the Plan would just be used for the architects to submit their portfolios based
upon the requirements written. The architect that received the project would be familiar with
library requirements and could assist with any required specifics. The board discussed the
properties of the building that they would like to see incorporated. Motion was made to approve
the Plan and to go ahead with the Request for Proposal. Motion carried.
4. Discussion of Library Site Visits
Mignon briefed the Board on libraries in the area that she has been visiting to gather ideas.
Discussion was held on funding raising that the Denton Library used. The Denton library had
constructed a wall of honor listing the names of patrons that had given donations. The higher on
the wall, the higher the donation. The Friends of the Library will be having fund raisers to provide
funds to help incidentals for the building.
5. Discussion of Quarterly Reports
Question was asked why the patron count went down over the last two months. Mignon felt it had
to do with the purging of duplicate and obsolete records.
6. National Library Week Fund Raisers
Elizabeth Ellis will be doing a review on April 18. She was well received when she gave a review
in January.
The cappuccino tasting that is being held at the First Baptist Church is being sponsored in part by
the American National Bank. They have agreed to donate$150.00
7. Meadows Foundation Grant
It had been requested at an earlier meeting, that the Board would like to review the Meadows
Grant that was submitted. Mignon provided a copy for the Board to review and advised that the
grant was still pending.
8. EBSCO Demonstration
The CD ROM changer was in for Phyllis work area, but the one to be used for the patron area had
not been received. The demonstration would be conducted sometime after receiving the changer.
It was promised on March 12.
