Call to Order
1. Minutes from April 8, 1996,Library Advisory Board were approved as written.
Morse
2. Mignon A4eifis briefed the Advisory Board on the architect selected for the
library renovation. The architect is Ms. Denelle Wrightson of Phillip, Swager and
Associates of Peoria, Illinois. The firm is well established having been in
business 30 years. They have worked on between 25-30 libraries in Illinois and
Texas. Ms. Wrightson was the architect for the W.O. Haggard, Jr. Library in
Plano. Mignon is to present to the City Council on May 28.
3. Mignon advised that the future meetings would be with the architect. June's
meeting would cover the schematic diagrams. July would cover the design phase.
Mignon encouraged the Advisory Board's comments and suggestions during this
time.
4. Discussed the increase in statistics. It was felt that the new books and the many
promotions that were being done had caused the increased library activity. Would
continue to buy books based upon the 4B tax moneys. Also the budget was in
work for next year and there was money in it for more book purchases. It was felt
that if we couldn't keep purchasing the new books to offer to the patrons our
usage would probably show a decline.
5. Discussed the review to be held May 23, 1996 at the First Baptist Church by
Rosemary Rumbley. The Advisory Board will be bringing the refreshments for
the review. The Advisory Board would provide cookies, punch, coffee and the
paper products to serve. The Friends group will benefit from the funds raised by
the review. All moneys raised by the Friends group would be going to fill in gaps
for the Library after the 4B tax money was depleted.
6. Mignon advised that the Marchive Records had been completed. There were
some problems that had not been foreseen. Overall she felt the investment had
been worthwhile. The staff will make the corrections to the records as time
allows, but with 30, 000 records this would take time. The good thing was that
the records were now in Library of Congress format.
'7. Leon Isabelle has established a free account on the Internet for the Library staff.
Before the Internet would be made available to library patrons many procedures
and policies would need to written and put into place. Mignon was to attend a
workshop on May 15 about use of the Internet. Mignon will learn all she can
about it before starting to work with the staff on it's use. She also offered the
Advisory Board a demo anytime we wanted to see one.

8. Mignon had attended the Texas Library Association Conference in Houston and
brought back a tape of the keynote speaker for the Advisory Board to listen to.
Very enlightening and thought provoking tape.
9. Reviewed the slides of the libraries that Mignon has toured. Many good ideas and
many things we should avoid when renovating the library.
7. NEW BUSINESS:
1. Mignon talked about some potential fund raisers that might be held. One that
came up was working with the Band Boosters Turkey Dinner to charge a fee to
deliver the turkey dinners. Would be looking into it. Also mentioned that Wylie
really had no place for candidates to have a public forum. Maybe a 'Meet the
Candidates' night at the Library would serve two purposes. One would allow the
people to meet the candidates and two, get them in the Library. Sachse has done
this in the past with some success.
2. City of Wylie will be having a 110 year Birthday Celebration in October. The
Friends of the Library will set up a booth for selling cakes. Also instead of a cake
walk, someone had contact at DrPepper and maybe could have a "Pepper
Promenade". More details will be worked out as the time grows closer.
3. The question came up about what information about the Library was given to real
estate agents about the Library. It is known that the "Newcomers" packet has
information about Library services, but Mignon would look into it and maybe talk
to the Chamber of Commerce about it.
4. Mignon stated that the Library would be teaming up with the Collin County
Genealogy Society to provide a program in Wylie. It would be late summer or
early fall. More information will be made available when the details have been
worked out.
