Call to Order
1. First order of business was to review the drawing presented by Maureen L. Arndt
and Don German with Phillip, Swager and Associates. They explained the plans for the
renovation. The theme selected for the children's sections was based on trains. It ties in
with the founding of Wylie.
2. The board discussed the carpeting and wall coverings. The board selected #507,
Aquarius for the carpeting and#12-CP-25, Moonstone for the wall covering. This was the
same selections as the staff had picked earlier. The selections will be looked at for use in
the renovation, depending upon cost.
3 Minutes from May 13, 1996, Library Advisory Board were approved as written.
4.. Mignon Morris briefed the Advisory Board on the Hillcrest Grant. The library had
received the grant for $15,000. to be used for shelving and equipment for the library.
Mignon is purchasing 1 computer and the rest will go on shelving. The library will utilize
the shelving it has now, but new shelving will be purchased for the children's area. The
library did not get the Meadows Grant, but Mignon stated that she would try again next
year. Also the Toker Grant was still outstanding. It was to be awarded in September. If
we received it, Mignon would purchase more 3M equipment with the grant.
3. Mignon went over her budget with the board. The information was very in-depth.
She wanted as much information as possible to make fact finding easier. It detailed the
hours, future needs, and concerns if not being able to continue expanding our current new
selections. The questions was asked if the City Council took into consideration that the
library would be receiving 4B tax money. Councilman Scott did not think that it would
make a difference in Mignon's budget.
4. Mignon requested that the advisory board fill out the questionnaire for placing in
the files. It was also to be forwarded to the City Council for consideration for those that
were interested in serving another term. Mignon had spoken to Jerri Smith and she had
decided not to return to the board. Of the remaining 3, Jerry Whitt, Cathy Bridges, and
Elizabeth Allen had all requested to be considered for reappointment.
6. Mignon had contacted Jane Henry and James Blakey about the monthly Library
newsletter. They will be including it with their handouts for people looking to relocate in
Wylie.
'7. There will be a genealogy session presented by Paula Parke. It will be 14
September (all day), and 2 night sessions 7 October and 14 November. The fee will be
$15.00 for the all day session and $12.00 each for the 2 night sessions. After Ms. Parke's
expenses are covered the rest will go to the library.

There will be an Internet workshop in August. It has been discussed to have a staff
training session with the library closes for renovation. Also the library will hire a library
moving company. It will be quicker and cleaner if professionals handle the job.
8. Reviewed the quarterly reports. The circulation is up. Mignon feels that it is due
in part to many new books that the library has purchased in recent months. She feels also
that the many talks that she has been conducting to get the word out about the library is
also paying off.
7. NEW BUSINESS:
1. Pat Guess wanted the boards opinion on presentation at the June 20th NETLS
meeting. She wanted to know if now was the time to present the information about the
library renovation, or to submit the information that would go in the newsletter. It was
decided that right now maybe the newsletter would be more effective and due the briefing
when more things have been decided.
