12-09-1996 (Library) Minutes RITA &TRUETT SMITH LIBRARY BOARD BOARD MEETING December 9, 1996 The Library Board of the City of Wylie met in regular session on December 9, '1996, at the home of Mignon Morse, Library Director at 6:30 p.m. The attendees were: Shirley Burnett Gerry Whitt Pat Guess Leo Houck Liz Allen Cathy t�r'dges Mignon Morse Call to Order 1. Approval of Minutes Minutes from the November 11, 1996 Library Advisory Board meeting were approved. 2. Discussion of Phone Use Policy The Library has installed a pay phone for patron use. Mignon explained that patrons have been abusing phone use on a regular basis. The staff phone is located at the circulation desk and was often tied up with patron calls. The pay phone was installed outside the building so people from the Wylie Sports Association can use it after library hours. :3. Discussion of Renovation and Construction Process Mignon gave a detailed report to the Board on construction progress. The Construction company has not been at work on the renovation for several days due to waiting on door frames and window frames. The Library is scheduled to move on January 15, 16, and 17. Announcements will be published in the newspaper and at City Hall. .4. Discussion of Extending Circulation Period Mignon talked with the Library Board about extending book circulation fe- w.taac weeks instead of three weeks during the Library's move. There will be not be any books due January 15-17 while the Library is closed. 5. Discuss Greeting Card Page and Matching Grant Mignon announced that the Library has been awarded a matching grant of $4448 for purchasing children's furniture. The Board reported that there were many people on their calling list for the Greeting Card Page who were not willing to give. However, the list was extended this year and there were a large number of people who were called for the first time. Mignon will go through the list and delete wrong phone numbers before next year's fund raiser. Kathy suggested laminating this year's Greeting Card Page and having it on display during the holidays next year. 6. New Business Pat announced that Plano Market Square has discount books that are slightly damaged on sale to the public. Mignon announced that the Library had a 49% increase in circulation in November 1996 compared to November 1995. Meeting Adjourned 7:50 p.m.
