08-09-2010 (Library) Minutes _Mt Library Advisory Board CITY OF WYLIE Library Board--Minutes Monday, August 9, 2010— 7:00 pm Bluebonnet Room Smith Public Library 800 Thomas Street Wylie, Texas 75098 CALL TO ORDER Announce the presence of a Quorum. Members present: Courtney Gober, Shirley Burnett, Grace Morrison, Mindy Ayer, Junaid Najamuddin, Rachel Orozco, (Board Liaison) Members absent: Brett Bim CITIZENS COMMENTS ON NON-AGENDA ITEMS Residents may address Board regarding an item that is not listed on the Agenda. Residents must provide their name and address. Board requests that comments be limited to three (3) minutes. In addition, the Board is not allowed to converse, deliberate or take action on any matter presented during citizen participation. PRESENTATION ACTION ITEMS 1. The Library Board Minutes of Monday, July 12, 2010 were approved with corrections. 2. Shirley Burnett moved that the library board adopt the Rita and Truett Smith Patron Behavior Policy. Gerri Washington seconded. The Library Board approved it unanimously. Questions were asked about illegal acts and mutilating library materials. The City Attorney reviewed the policy twice and it was decided to leave these phrases in the policy. DISCUSSION ITEMS Texshare Policy: The Texshare policy will allow the staff to give patrons a Texshare Card that allows them to use area libraries. The lending library sets the restrictions. The Smith Library does not have non-resident requirements. The Smith Library staff will give non-residents a regular library card. The Texshare card will benefit Wylie residents. The Texshare policy will be approved at the next meeting. Budget: The rest of the city budget will be reviewed on Tuesday, July 10 at 6 p.m. The main discussion at the first budget meeting was looking ahead to the upcoming fiscal years. Ju{y'12,2010 Library Advisory Board Regular Meeting Agenda Page 2 of 2 Supporters' Conference: Shirley, Grace, and Gerri attended the Supporters' Conference in Decatur. Shirley reported: Instead of having an Angel Tree for children, having the tree for Nursing Homes since there are many avenues for children. Grace reported: "Keeping Your Library Alive in the 21st Century" was about library positioning in the community by meeting with individuals, organizations and businesses. There was also a discussion about how science fiction writers think ahead with technology. They are encouraging libraries to think ahead about technology. Gerri reported: Colleyville has a camera that takes pictures that printed them out right away. Library board members are encouraged to attend the council meetings even if they cannot stay for the whole meetings. STAFF REPORTS Rachel updated the board on the BTOP grant.
