10-16-2010 (Parks & Recreation) Minutes PARK TOUR MINUTES i illt }s ;ta, Board Members present: Chairwoman Anne Hiney, Brandi Lafleur, Gary Robas(left at 3:15), Matt Rose, Cristine Price and Jim Ward (left at 3:15). (Absent: Dan Chesnut) Parks Staff present: Public Services Director Mike Sferra, Parks and Recreation Administrative Secretary Nancy Williams, and Parks& Rec Maintenance Worker Brent Stowers (driver). 1. Olde City Park a. Put up lattice fencing around electric box for security and aesthetics b. Remove pole with siren notice and place notice on new fencing around electric box c. In the future possibly install a sand volleyball court 2. Founders Park a. Prior to opening playground needs new cedar, paint and weedeating 3. Forrest Ross a. Consultant to recommend design of park to flow seamlessly into the Army Corps of Engineers park area. b. To work with Army Corps of Engineers to stock pond 4. Wylie Lakes a. Look into possibility of tying into"Angel Park"with trail that goes thru ACE property; playground to be installed 5. Avalon Park 6. Oncor/Lavon Park a. Possibility of Disc Golf and/or Dog.Park in this location in future 7. Community Park a. Rubble at park entrance will be removed upon construction completion b. Suggest brick building be used for league storage when park reopens c. Concern was voiced that new concession stand is turned so that from the parking area pathway leads directly to restrooms.Will discuss with contractor to rotate building direction so pathway leads to concession stand order window d. Waiting for cost proposal to move transformer e. Drawings for layout will be brought to next PARD Board Meeting f. During construction lines stubbed out to T-Bail fields for future restrooms g. Question order of field revamping. Cristine felt Cooper field most important(scheduled to be left as is) h. Suggest Rowell field dimensions mirror proposed Little League emerging trends/pending regulations: 50/70 with 250-275 foot fencing. 8. Southbrook Park a. Trash bins should be upgraded 9. Twin Lakes Park a. Good job cleaning up since last tour b. Would be nice to have trail going thru Southbrook to Twin Lakes 10. Kirby Park a. Upgrade trash bins b. Add 1 newer to back side of park 11. Joel Scott Memorial Park a. Noted that this park gets a great deal of use. Should have more parking b. Park should be expanded in the future or another skate park built near Community Park 12. Dodd Park a. Another park with a great deal of use; needs better access. b. Suggested over-seeding of backstops—noted irrigation purchased c. PeeWee and T-Ball age leagues could use once Community Park is closed—CP bleachers could ".� be housed here during that time d. Parking issues noted 13. Birmingham Farms Park a. Should make walkway to trail ADA accessible at sidewalk entrance 14. New Possible Park area a. Corner of Fleming and Westgate 10 acre parcel currently zoned commercial b. Would be nice for a multi-use park and possibly additional skate park c. Staff will check into land status ADJOURNMENT The Tour adjourned at 4:00 p.m. The tour did not include the following parks: Creekside Estates, Eureka, Friendship, Lakeside Estates, Meadows of Birmingham, Meadowview Estates, Muddy Creek Preserve, Parkside, Pheasant Creek, Riverway, Sage Creek, Trinity Trailhead or Valentine Parks.
