CALL TO ORDER Announce the presence of a Quorum. DISCUSSION ITEMS • Update to the Municipal Complex Art Projects for Site #1 Site #2 and Site #3; Update Founder's Park Art Project. Executive Summary Staff will report the progress for Site #1, Site #2 and Site #3 art projects for the Municipal Complex and Founder's Park. March 17, 2011 Wylie Public Arts Advisory Board Meeting Agenda Page 2 • Discussion regarding CIP Art Project for Community Park. Executive Summary Staff will report on current funding for Community Park and options for additional funding. Staff will also report on the theme and proposed locations for the art from the Wylie Parks and Recreation Board. • Discussion regarding the Wylie Municipal Complex Art Dedications. Executive Summary Staff is requesting direction regarding a final date to celebrate the Wylie Municipal Complex CIP Art Projects. Staff and the board can then begin plans for the event. BUSINESS ITEMS 1. Consider and act upon approval of the minutes from the February 17, 2011 Public Arts Advisory Board meeting. (C. Ehrlich, PAAB staff liaison) 2. Consider and act upon approval of the wording and design of the art dedication plaques for Voices of Wylie (LivingLenses), Something Real (Steve Gillman), Teatro XIX (Herk van Tongeren) and CATCH (Madeline Wiener). Executive Summary Staff has prepared examples of the materials and wording as it would be placed on each of the above plaques for final approval by the Public Arts Advisory Board. • Board Inspection of "Something Real" by Steve Gillman located in front of the Wylie Municipal Complex. 3. Consider and act upon the final approval and final payment to Steve Gillman for "Something Real". Executive Summary Construction Manager Shane Colley has given his final approval of the Municipal Complex, Site#1 art project, "Something Real" by Steve Gillman. Lighting is set and the granite path is completed. Funding for the lighting was taken from the artist's final payment. The board has toured the site and can take action to approve the art and authorize submission of the final payment. I will also arrange for a riser at the formal ceremony area. -I recommend having a formal ceremony at the front of the building, maybe in the fire lane, so we can set up a quality sound system, chairs and a riser. It would be the ideal venue for the Mayor,Art Board and a high up dignitary to speak from. The artist would be recognized at this time. Following the formal ceremony, the artist would move to their individual pieces to answer questions and give descriptions of their work. We would provide a one speaker sound system at each site. The dignitaries can move from site to site for a ribbon cutting and picture op. The meeting was called to order at 6:30 p.m. by Vice Chair Thomas Gaudreau. Board members in attendance were, Erin Dougherty, Polly Harrison, Ashley Burt and Deya Harris. Board members Stewart Matthews, and Kathy Spillyards were absent. Staff present included Carole Ehrlich, board liaison/secretary. DISCUSSION ITEMS • Update to the Municipal Complex Art Projects for Site #1 Site #2 and Site #3; Update Founder's Park Art Project. Executive Summary Staff liaison Ehrlich addressed the board stating that the Site #1 Art Project for the Municipal Complex was scheduled to be completed the week of February 21st. Installation of lighting and completion of the decomposed granite pathway were the only items yet to be completed. Ehrlich explained that once these two items were complete, a special meeting of the board could be called to approve the final art and final payment to artist Steve Gillman. Ehrlich reported she had been in contact with Living Lenses regarding installation of their sculpture to be placed in Site#2 of the Municipal complex. She noted that sculpture should be installed sometime the middle of March. Ehrlich also reported that CATCH by Madeline Wiener at Founder's Park was complete other than the decomposed granite and native grass planting which should be completed in the next couple of weeks. Teatro XIX will have concrete poured Friday February 18th and will then be ready for cleaning and patina work. Ehrlich reported that portion of the work should take place in the next couple of weeks. • Discussion regarding CIP Art Project for Community Park. Executive Summary PAAB liaison Ehrlich reported there was $14,950 in the 1%for Public Art for Community Park CIP Improvements. Ehrlich explained that this budget was small and the board might want to look at other funding to be added to the budget for this project. She explained to the board the processes that could be used in selecting an artist.
