05-19-2011 (Public Arts Advisory) Minutes Public Arts Advisory Board CITY OF WYLIE Minutes Regular Meeting May 19, 2011 - 6:30 p.m. Wylie Municipal Complex Council Chambers 300 Country Club Road, Bldg. 100 Wylie, Texas 75098 CALL TO ORDER Announce the presence of a Quorum. The meeting was called to order at 6:55 p.m. by Chairman Stewart Matthews. Board members in attendance were Kathy Spillyards, Polly Harrison, and Erin Dougherty. Board members Ashley Burt, Thomas Gaudreau and Deya Harris were absent. Staff present included Carole Ehrlich, board liaison/secretary. DISCUSSION ITEMS • Update to the Municipal Complex Art Projects for Site #1 Site #2 and Site #3; Update Founder's Park Art Project. Staff Comments Public Art Board liaison Ehrlich reported there was an issue with the Voice of Wylie by Living Lenses. Ehrlich explained the sculpture had circular lines running through the stainless steel especially when the sun was shining on the piece. Ehrlich reported the artists were aware of the issue and were working with the fabricator to resolve the issue. She noted the balance to pay the artists was contingent upon the costs to resolve the issue. PAAB liaison Ehrlich reported Artist Madeline Wiener had sent the stone plaque for "CATCH" at Founder's Park and plans have been finalized for the art dedication. She presented a draft invitation for the Grand Opening of the park and the Public Art Dedication of"CATCH" that would be sent to sports leagues, PAAB selection panel, and other boards and commission members. She noted the invitation would be sent to city employees and dignitaries at the county and surrounding local levels. • Discussion regarding the Community park CIP Art Project. (C. Ehrlich, PAAB Liaison) Staff Comments Staff liaison Ehrlich reviewed the current funding of $14,950 for the Community Park CIP Art Project. Ehrlich explained this amount was low to provide any type of substantial sculpture or mosaic and was not enough to consider bronze. May 19,2;011 Wylie Public Arts Advisory Board Meeting Minutes P 2 Ehrlich suggested the board postpone beginning the commission process until next year when funds from the December 2011 Arts Festival were collected to see if those funds could enhance what the board could commission for the Community Park Project. —.. Consensus of the board was to wait until January 2012 to begin discussions regarding the commissioning of an artist for Community Park project. BUSINESS ITEMS 1. Consider and act upon approval of the minutes from the April 21, 2011 Public Arts Advisory Board meeting. (C. Ehrlich, PAAB staff liaison) Board Action A motion was made by board member Spillyards, seconded by board member Harrison to approve the minutes of the April 21, 2011 Public Arts Board meeting. A vote was taken and the motion passed 4-0 with board members Burt, Harris and Gaudreau absent.
