Executive Summary
Staff and the board will discuss the 2011 Wylie Art Festival project. Part of that discussion will involve
received vendor applications, committee chair reports and expansion of the event including the
Community Canvass.

1. Consider and act upon approval of the final featured artist design for the 2011

Executive Summary
At the October 13th PAAB meeting board members tabled this item to allow time to solicit more art
submissions. Staff has collected and assembled the art submissions received for final approval of the 2011
featured artist for the Wylie Arts Festival T-Shirts.
2. Consider and act upon approval of the minutes from the October 13, 2011 Public
Arts Advisory Board meeting. (C. Ehrlich, PAAB staff liaison)

2011 Wylie Art Festival T-Shirt Designs
Request for Artist Submissions
The Wylie Public Arts Advisory Board is seeking submissions for Illustrations/Designs/Icons to
be used on T-shirts and other printed materials for the Wylie Arts Festival that depict the theme
"Light Up the Arts". The original designs need to be conducive for use on a t-shirt taking into
consideration detail, color, transferability and ability to stand alone.
Please submit in jpeg in high pixel color. Drawings may be submitted but will need to be
converted to jpeg if chosen.
Deadline for submissions is November 1, 2011 by noon to City of Wylie Municipal Complex, 300
Country Club Road, Building 100, Wylie, TX 75098, Attn: Carole Ehrlich or e-mail to
carole.ehrlich@wylietexas.gov.

CALL TO ORDER
Announce the presence of a Quorum.
The meeting was called to order at 6:35 p.m. by Chairman Stewart Matthews. Board members in
attendance were Kathy Spillyards, Jim Lenox, Deya Harris, Gaynell Reed, DeeAnn Ross, and Susan
Spurgin.
Staff present included Carole Ehrlich, board liaison/secretary; Craig Kelly, Public Information Officer for
the City of Wylie, and Gilbert Tamez, Festival Volunteers chairman.
DISCUSSION ITEMS
• Discussion regarding FY 2011-2012 Wylie Arts Festival. (C. Ehrlich, PAAB Liaison)
Board/Staff Discussion
Staff and the board discussed the 2011 Wylie Arts Festival project. PAAB liaison Ehrlich reported that 19
applications for the festival had been received to date with 17 currently approved. Five food vendors were a
portion of that total. Ehrlich reported that the event was ahead of last year in submissions for October.
Committee chairs gave updates on the programmed entertainment, sponsorships, fine art and craft vendors
including food vendors, volunteer efforts and other items prepared for the event.
Public Information Officer Kelly addressed the board giving an overview of current advertising medias and
suggestions of additional advertising opportunities to grow the event. Board members asked Mr. Kelly to get in
touch with Farmer's Co Op to see if flyers could be placed in their utility mail outs. Board member Spillyards
suggested advertising in other NeighborsGO sections such as the Allen/McKinney and the Rowlett/Rockwall
editions. Other suggestions included contacting regional churches and schools to see if event inserts could be
placed in their bulletins and other mail materials. Mr. Kelly reported flyers would also be handed out at "Boo on
Ballard".
Board member Deva Harris left the meeting at 8:00 pm., due to another commitment.

A motion was made by board member Lenox, seconded by board member Spillyards to approve the
September 22, 2011 Public Arts Advisory Board minutes as presented. A vote was taken and the
motion passed 6-0 with board member Harris absent.
2. Consider and act upon approval of the final featured artist design for the 2011
Wylie Arts Festival. (C. Ehrlich, PAAB staff liaison)
Board Action
A motion was made by board member Matthews, seconded by board member Lenox to table
consideration of the final featured artist design for the 2011 Wylie Arts Festival to November 3, 2011 to

With no other business before the board, a motion was made by board member Reed, seconded by
