The Library Board of the City pf Wylie met in regular session on Monday, December 14, 1987 at 6:30 P.M. in the Rita and Truett Smith Library. A quorum was present and notice of the meeting had been posted in the time and manner required by law. Those present were Robert Fultz, Rita Smith, Pat Zimmerman, Judy Lippe, Carol Berry, Betty Stephens, and Librarian Beverly Shockley. The meeting was called to order by Chairman Robert Fultz. The minutes of the November 30 meeting were read and approved as read. The monthly activity report for November was reviewed. The average per day circulation was up for the month. The need for publicity was mentioned and it was agreed that perhaps this could be pursued after the holidays. Each Board member reported that they had contacted the people suggested from the previous Christmas Page list. The response had appeared to be very positive. The deadline is Wednesday, December 16. Beverly Shockley will compile the list for the paper and see that is delivered to them for publication. Various publicity opportunities will be discussed in the future. It was felt this would be important. Items in the newspaper will be included in this effort. Rita Smith mentioned the possibility of some social activity to inform people about the library as well as to encourage a Friends of the Library organization. Robert Fultz mentioned an adult learning center in the library. This would cooperative with the school as Betty Stephens mentioned the GED program and Adult Literacy classes already operated by the WISD. The need for automation is growing but it was felt that it was not necessary at this time. The meeting was adjourned.
