STAFF REPORTS
Library Updates:
There has been a lot of frustration with the lack of operational computers and the inconsistency of the
internet service. The old building had 9 computers and the new building has 52 computers. Both Grace
Morrison and Junaid Najamuddin wrote to the City Manager and expressed their concerns to her that
half of the computers were not working. They also expressed that people who come in to connect to the
Wi-Fi would get dropped and lose their work. The City Manager responded that an additional IT person
has been hired and they are working diligently to get everything up and running. At the City Council
Meeting Grace thanked the City Manager and Council for their work and advised them that an Advisory
Board Member went around to various areas in the Library to see what was working and what was not
working and made an itemized list. Rachel Orozco expressed that the emails sent by Grace, Junaid and
another member of the public aided in IT focusing on the Library issues. At this time, all of the
computers appear to be working.
Lighting Update—Originally there was some lights outside by the book drop that malfunctioned and
additional ones have been ordered. Once these have been installed there will be a re-evaluation as to
whether additional lighting is needed.
Cameras—A decision was made and there are no cameras installed on the exterior of any of the
buildings. The idea behind the cameras on the inside of the building is that people are not being
monitored; however, if the staff has a problem with a citizen the tape can be viewed. To install exterior
cameras the cost would be approximately $250,000. Junaid Najamuddin and Tim McCray both
expressed their concerns about the lack of cameras possibly being a security issue and a liability to the
City.
Announcements:

young adults and we will be able to keep the books she reads.
