04-27-2012 (Public Arts Advisory) Minutes Public Art — Downtown Olde City Park Mural Art Selection Panel CITY OF WYLIE Special Called Meeting Minutes April 27, 2012 - 1:00 p.m. Wylie Municipal Complex Council Conference Room 300 Country Club Road, Bldg. 100 Wylie, TX 75098 CALL TO ORDER Announce the presence of a Quorum. The meeting was called to order at 1:20 p.m. Downtown Mural Art Selection Panel members present were: Margaret Robinette, Lynn Grimes, Ann Martin, Gaynell Reed, Alexis Tapp and John Pototschnik. Kelly Ramsey was unable to attend. Staff present included Carole Ehrlich, Board Liaison and Jacky Casey, Administrative Assistant. PRESENTATION AND DISCUSSION ITEMS Presentation and Review of the Call for Artists for the Downtown Mural located at Olde City Park Public Art Project. (C. Ehrlich, Board Liaison) Board liaison Ehrlich addressed the panel and stated that during the call for artists' process, eleven artists submitted to the call for artist's invitation. The following artists were presented with their previous work, resume, and letters of interest. Ehrlich noted that Jorge D'Soria rescinded his submission due to a family illness. 1. Esteban Delgado 5. Stephen Hackle 9. Kevin Obregon 2. Dave Eden 6. David Larcom 10. Kyle Wadworth 3. Johnny Edwards 7. Abraham Mong 4. Art Garcia 8. Roger and Karen Nitz Ehrlich reported that the overall budget for the downtown mural project was $15,000. In addition each of the two to three artists chosen for the short list would receive a stipend of$300 to prepare a maquette of their proposals for the specific park site. Ehrlich reported that each artist's references would be checked upon the selection of the finalists. The panel reviewed each artist and began to narrow the artists to 2-3 finalists. BUSINESS ITEMS 1. Consider and act upon the selection of artists to be considered for the Downtown Mural at Olde City Park Art Project. (C. Ehrlich, PAAB staff liaison) Panel Discussion The panel asked questions relating to the individual artists and discussed the different designs the individual .� artists utilized. John Potoschnik noted that the artist chosen would need to convey his design detail so vehicle passengers could see the detail from a distance. He noted that the artists presented were both graphic and artistic in design techniques. The panel narrowed the artists down to 2-3 finalists and chose an alternate in the event any of the finalists could not fulfill their proposal obligations or time lines. Panel Action A motion was made by panel member Potoschnik, seconded by panel member Martin to choose Roger and Karen Nitz, Dave Eden, and Kyle Wadsworth as the three finalists (short list) with the selection of Johnny Edwards as the alternate. A vote was taken and all members were in favor of the artists chosen.
