07-24-1980 (Planning & Zoning) Minutes Planning and Zoning Commission Meeting
July 24, 1980
7:00 p.m.
The Wylie Planning and Zoning Commission met in regular session with
the following members present: Dr. Joe Fulgham; chairman, Don Kreymer,
Ken Mauk, Frank Mc Millan, John Seeley, Sue Webster, and John Yeager.
Also present were Mr. and Mrs. Hilton, Mr. and Mrs. Huffman, Mr.
Ken Swayze and Lee S. Vickers.
Chairman Fulgham called the meeting to order briefly explaining the
purpose of the hearing, after which he invited proponents for the
rezoning request to present their statement. Mr. Mickey Huffman
spoke in favor of the rezoning request of the Hilton property
located on South Birmingham ( Track 7C-8B, Abstract 267, E. Davidson
Survey ) .
Mr. Huffman summarized testimony presented dt the previous meeting
and urged the Conunission to reconsider the request on grounds that
the property would be upgraded, that the neighborhood would be improved,
and that the property next door was already zoned for commercial use.
A lengthy discussion followed during which questions were asked and
answered. The Chairman advised the Hiltons that the City should go
in accordance with the Comprehensive Community Plan and the new zoning
ordinance, which is to be considered during the next few months before
rezoning should be considered in this area. Considerable discussion
followed, after which it was decided by consensus that the previous
recommendation of the Planning and Zoning Commission would stand
until the City Planner can complete work on the new zoning ordinance
which will be prepared in accordance with the new City-wide land use
plan.
Mrs. Hilton agreed that, since there was no other alternative, they
would wait till the new zoning ordinance is under consideration.
There being no further business the meeting was adjourned.
