10-09-1980 (Planning & Zoning) Minutes SPECIAL SESSION
PLANNING AND ZONING MINUTES
THURSDAY OCTOBER 9, 1980
7:00 P.M.
The following members were present: Mrs. Sue Webster, Mr. Don
Kreymer, Mr. Ken Mauk, Mr. Frank McMillian, Mr. John Yeager, and
Mr. John Seeley. Also present were City Manager Lee S. Vickers
and planning consultant J. T. Dunkin. Chairman Joe Fulgham was
absent.
Mrs. Sue Webster presided and, noting that a quorum was present,
called the meeting to order. Mr. J. T. Dunkin presented the new
proposed Zoning Ordinance. He discussed the procedure by which
the Ordinance could eventually be adopted which included the
mailing of a post card to each property owner within the City
giving them a fifteen day notice of the public hearing in which
the Ordinance would be discussed. He recommended a joint meet-
ing of the Planning and Zoning Commission with the City Council
at that public hearing.
Members of the Planning and Zoning Commission had not had the
opportunity to study the Zoning Ordinance prior to meeting, so
most of the time of the meeting was devoted to working through
the Ordinance and discussing the various districts and the re-
quirements for building within the various districts.
A lengthy discussion considering minimum lot sizes in various
districts ensued. Also discussed were the major zoning features
in the various zones and much time was devoted to the study of the
charts used to outline uses permitted in the various zones. The
Commission also discussed town houses and the need for fire pro-
tective walls between the living units to prevent total destruction
of mutiple units in the event of a fire in one of the residences.
The Commission agreed to meet again at 7 p.m. on Thursday October
23, 1980 to further discuss the Ordinance. There being no further
business the meeting was adjourned.
