11-14-2005 (Library) Minutes MINUTES Library Advisory Board Monday, November 14, 2005 Smith Public Library 800 Thomas Street 7:00 p.m. CALL TO ORDER Grace Morrison, President, called the meeting to order. PRESENT Grace Morrison, Rachel Orozco, Shirley Burnett,Joe Murphy, Sandra Williams, David James,Junaid Najamuddin ACTION CMS Minutes were read and approved. C N-PA N DISCUSSION TEEMS Grace read that the Library had 1,644 votes for and 650 against. Grace thanked everybody that had signs in their yards and supported the proposition. Rachel said that decisions had not been made on location. She said that the Council and City Manager were going to recognize the Citizen's Bond Review Committee. They would then begin to prioritize the proposals. Grace talked about the Wells Property and explained the history of its acquisition and the possibility of its use for municipal facilities. It was agreed that the Christmas Dinner would be at the Woodbridge Golf Club in the conference room on December 13 at 6:30 p.m. The Board agreed that this was a good date and location. STAFF REPORTS Rachel reported that the Pet Parade had 100 in attendance. The Animal Shelter came out to promote adoptions. A local veterinarian came to give pets vaccinations. The Teens painted pumpkins in October and created their own art in November. Teen programs are once a month. Rachel said that she wanted to cultivate that population to use the library. Children's Book Week included Mayor John Mondy, Clayton Jones, paramedic and fireman, and Dr. John Fuller, the WISD School Superintendent. Rachel also said that tutor.com, a Live Homework Help program,will be available in December. She explained that it was a reputable program. NETLS helped to negotiate a contract for the libraries in NETLS. In October, 10,618 were checked out; 10,959 items were checked in; $1,064.49 revenues were tendered. Cristen Williams is the new Children's Librarian. She graduated from University of Texas at Austin. She is currently at the Montgomery County Library System. Rachel mentioned that the Technology Plan expires in 2006. It will be updated this year. When the new computers are installed, the procedures will change to allow patrons more time throughout the day to use the internet. Internet access will be added to additional computers.
