01-10-2005 (Library) Minutes RITA & TRUETT SMITH LIBRARY BOARD BOARD MEETING The Library Board of the City of Wylie met in regular session on January 10, 2005, at the Library. The attendees were: Present Shirley Burnett Grace Morrison Mary Vaughan Joe Murphy Valli Hoski Mary Johnston Scott Ames Guests Roger and Jerri Smith Call to Order Citizen Participation Presentation Jerri Smith, Friends President, spoke to the Board on the 2004 accomplishments of the Friends and the goals for 200: Friends Accomplishments for 2004 1. Spoke to City Manager Candidates and councilmen regarding a new library. 2. Hosted a book signing for Councilman Eric Hogue 3. Hosted a Rita Smith Day reception and 150 people attended 4. Organized a Pennies by the Mile fundraiser for the schools that will be started in 2005 5. Sold drinks at Summer Concerts 6. Passed out library flyers at Christmas Parade Friends Goals for 2005 1. Have speakers at Council meetings 2. Pass out flyers about the library at large businesses 3. Write editorials for the newspaper 4. Follow through with Pennies by the Mile 5. Ask Laura Bush to write a letter supporting the need for a library and publish in Wylie News Library Board Suggestions 1. Ask school board members for their support 2. Speak at PTA meetings and faculty meetings 3. Reach the school librarians 4. Contact Realtors for financial support 5. Ask developers for donations. Jerri asked the board to support the Friends and partner with them to try to get a library. Board members gave Jerri their contact information. Action Items 1. Consider and act upon the approval of the Minutes from the November 8, 2004, meeting. Minutes were approved as read with one correction. 2. Consider and Act Upon the Approval of the Revised Circulation Policy. Mignon presented the changes to the policy. Most of them are a result of the new automation system. There wa suggested fee added to the policy for people who do not pick up interlibrary loans. The board discussed increasing fee to $3.00 rather than $2.00. Mignon pointed out this library would be higher than anyone in the metroplex if that v the case. The board came to a consensus to charge a $2.00 fee. Shirley Burnett made a motion to approve the pol with the fee. The fee will have to go through Council. The vote was six to one on the fee. Board members who vo for the policy are as follows: Shirley Burnett, Grace Morrison, Joe Murphy, Mary Johnston, Mary Vaughan, and Sc Ames. Valli Hoski voted against the policy. Discussion Items 3. Discuss December Monthly Report and Quarterly Report. Overall, it was a good first quarter for the library. Adjournment The meeting was adjourned at 7:50 p.m.
