February 24, 1992
The Library Board of the City of Wylie met in regular session
on February 24 , 1992 , in the workroom of the Rita & Truett Smith
Public Library , at 7 : 00 P .M. A quorum was present and notice
of the meeting was posted in the time and manner required by
law. Those present were : Retha Tibbals , Pat Guess , Mary Jo
Smith, Ronnie Bentley , Shirley Burnett , and Phyllis Floyd,
library director .
APPROVAL OF MINUTES FOR JANUARY 27 , 1992 : Minutes of the last
meeting were approved as submitted .
EXPLANATION OF NETLS: Many services are available to libraries
in the NOrthEast Texas Library System. Films , videos , and large
print books are circulated through NETLS every two months . The
library can buy books and supplies through the system jobber--
which currently is Baker Thylor--at a cheaper rate. The computer
system questions are answered through NETLS at no charge. The
system provides publicity and promotions such as tickets to
Scarborough Faire . Films may be ordered through NETLS . The Rita &
Turett Smith Library received $5 , 461 .00 for development last
year from the system. This amount is based on population . The
system, which is funded through the state , has a membership of
84 libraries . Continuing education seminars are offered throughout
the year .
SPRING BREAK: Again this year all late materials will haveiall
fines forgiven if returned between March 18 and April 18 .
SELECTING LIBRARY GOALS: Phyllis Floyd explained the worksheet
on selecting library roles . These are to be filled out by
various groups in the community--board members , employees , and
patrons . The worksheet is to be completed anonymously .
