A quorum was present and notice of the meeting was posted in the time and manner required by law. Those present were: Pat Guess , Terri Smith, Cathy Weatherspoon, Elizabeth Allen, Shirley Burnett , and Phyllis Floyd , Librarian. APPROVAL OF MINUTES FROM DECEMBER 13 , 1993 : The minutes were approved after the correction of the spelling of NETLS . MONTHLY REPORTS: The computer is functioning better , but still some data is being lost . Book traffic has been slow the last month because of the holidays . The software for SHARE NETLS is in, but it won ' t be in place until the com- puter is functioning correctly. GREETING CARD PAGE: $950 .00 has been collected as of this date . SECURITY SYSTEM: Phyllis is researching security systems for books . Three bids are necessary before deciding on a system. CITIZEN PARTICIPATION: Gerri Smith coming before the board as a citizen, not a board member, introduced an article con- cerning The African American Literary REview and suggested the library obtain a copy . ShareNETls aeeows th electronic transmission messages an f resource sharing requests, other information in a cost effective manner between participating NETLS member libraries . This pilot project is intended to span at least three years and was developed as a part of Project Share which liL5iI in the NETLS Long Range Automation Plan. Sp (Library Services Systems Inc . ) software allows requests to be entered into a microcomputer on p res screens . The data is compressed and sent to a microcomputer located at the Interlibrary Loan office at Dallas Public Library at night when the library staff is not using the equipment . The software is set up ahead of time computer transmit iswhile turned on and rre ydyis closed as long as the The ShareNETls LSSI software also MARCallows holdings use ofosix CD-ROM database containing the NETLS DYNIX libraries containing ve 350s, 000taMARC format bibliographic records . The base is searched before the interlibrary loan or resource sharing request is made to determine which library owns the material or to obtain a better citation. Although the CD-ROM does not include the records an o of ffice the u Dallas llas Public Library the Interlibrary the collection of Dallas Public Library to fill most requests . In the interlibrary loan office at the Dallas Public Library, the staff will batch print and then process all requests received the previous night . The software is easy to use and does not require extensive the staffing. The system limits, as much as possible, an telephone time required to submit interlibrary loan or resource sharing requests .
