BOARD MEETING
September 8, 1997
The Library Advisory Board of the City of Wylie met in regular session on
September 8, 1997, in the Library at 7:00 p.m. The attendees were:

Call to Order
1. Approval of Minutes
Minutes from the August 11, 1997, Library Advisory Board meeting were
approved.
2. Discuss and Consider Approval for Meeting Room Policy.
The policy was discussed and approved pending review of the City Attorney.
3. Discuss 4B Funding
Mignon announced the approval of 4B funding is on the Council Agenda for
September 9, 1997. The proposed amount for the Library is $60,000.
The Library Board was asked to attend this meeting.
4. Discuss TIF Grant Procedure.
The Telecommunications Infrastructure Fund is offering grants for Texas public
libraries. The Smith Public Library will be applying for a grant for $10,000 to
purchase two computers for Internet access, an ISDN modem,
telecommunications costs, and training. The grant is due on November 1 and
funding will be awarded in March/April 1998. There will be two required training
meetings for libraries that receive funding. Mignon hopes to coordinate
providing public access on the Internet with bringing up the new automation
system and host a promotional event.
5. Discuss December Meeting Plans.
The Library Board agreed to not have a meeting in December and have a pot
luck dinner instead. The party will be at Gerry Whitt's home and the Friends of
the Library will be invited to attend.
NEW BUSINESS
There was an 36% increase in statistics in August 97 over August 96. Next
month Mignon will provide the Board will year end statistics.
There is currently a Library User Survey being conducted during the month of
September. Statistics from the survey will be provided at next month's meeting.
