08-08-1994 (Library) Minutes RITA & TRUETT SMITH LIBRARY BOARD Board Meeting August 8, 1994 The Library Board of the City of Wylie met in regular session on August 8, 1994,in the work room of the Rita &Truett Smith Public Library, at 7:00 pm. The attendees were: Pat Guess Jerri Smith Elizabeth Allen Cathy Weatherspoon Sandy Donovan Charles A. Lewis Phyllis D. Floyd-Staff Librarian Meeting Minutes Call to Order #1 - The swearing in of a new library board member. -Charles A. Lewis #2 - The election of new library board officers. -Chairman-Pat Guess -Vice Chairman-Jerri Smith -Secretary -Charles A. Lewis #3 - The status of the five-year library outlook paper from board members. This is a carryover item from the 7-13-94 meeting. The completion of this item was deferred until next months meeting. #4- The furnishing of the library budget to the board members. The budget will be made available at the September board meeting. #5 - The library staff is having problems with the "Winnebago" library software support. Board Secretary (Charles Lewis) will draft a letter to the City Manager (Steve Norwood) concerning the situation by 8-12-94. #6 - Motion to approve the minutes from the 7-13-94. The minutes were unanimously approved. #7- The acquisition of the Heritage Farms exhibit. The librarian will release the exhibit as of now, due to logistical problems. The next time that it becomes available,she will let the city know that they will have to arrange for transport of the display items. Also,the librarian will allow for a sufficient amount of advance notice. This will allow the library board and/or staff to publicize the event more effectively. #8- Discussion concerning ways to more effectively publicize the commodities and services that the library offers. 1_ The individual board members suggestions will be forwarded to the City Manager via their five -year outlook papers. Board Vice-Chairman Jerri Smith will attend the next City Council meeting to explore ways to more effectively publicize library activities. Board member Sandy Donovan also put forth a suggestion that we put together a plan at next months meeting to include WISD students in the new library campaign. #9 - Board members tour of the library facilities. The board members in attendance were given a tour of the library by the staff librarian. #10 - The meeting was adjourned. 3
