08-11-1997 (Library) Minutes RITA & TRUETT SMITH LIBRARY BOARD BOARD MEETING August 11, 1997 The Library Advisory Board of the City of Wylie met in regular session on August 11, 1997, in the Library at 7:00 p.m. The attendees were: Liz Allen Cathy Bridges Shirley Burnett Mary Conley Gerry Whitt Tom Proctor Call to Order 1. Approval of Minutes Minutes from the July 14, 1997, Library Advisory Board meeting were approved. 2. Discuss the Library Operating Budget and 4B Funding. The City Operating Budget has been reduced significantly from the original departmental proposals. No capital items were approved. Library capital items included a laminator which is being purchased with 4b funds and a computer for public Internet access. Mignon is considering writing a grant through TIF (Telecommunications Infrastructure Fund) to request a computer. She is waiting on guidelines and other information from the Northeast Texas Library System (NETLS). More information will be provided at next month's Library Advisory Board Meeting. The City Council and 4b board will vote on the proposed budget at the August 26 or September 9 Council Meeting. The date has not been determined. Once the date had been established, Mignon will notify the Library Advisory Board members. She encouraged them to attend the Council meeting. 3. Discuss Summer Reading Club and Statistical Increases. Summer Reading Club statistics increased significantly this year. There were over 800 people who attended 18 programs. There were 225 registrants this year compared to 85 last year. Circulation statistics increased 25% in July 1997 over July 1996 with 8410 checkouts. June's circulation was 8651 which is the highest in the history of the Library. NEW BUSINESS Mignon announced the Library will be hosting a program on sign language on August 26. The Christmas/December Library Advisory Board meeting was discussed, and Gerry Whitt volunteered to host the dinner. The date for the meeting has not been set. Meeting Adjourned 7:45 p.m.
