Call to Order
1. Approval of Minutes
Minutes from the July 14, 1997, Library Advisory Board meeting were approved.
2. Discuss the Library Operating Budget and 4B Funding.
The City Operating Budget has been reduced significantly from the original
departmental proposals. No capital items were approved. Library capital items
included a laminator which is being purchased with 4b funds and a computer for
public Internet access. Mignon is considering writing a grant through TIF
(Telecommunications Infrastructure Fund) to request a computer. She is waiting
on guidelines and other information from the Northeast Texas Library System
(NETLS). More information will be provided at next month's Library Advisory
Board Meeting.
The City Council and 4b board will vote on the proposed budget at the August
26 or September 9 Council Meeting. The date has not been determined. Once
the date had been established, Mignon will notify the Library Advisory Board
members. She encouraged them to attend the Council meeting.
3. Discuss Summer Reading Club and Statistical Increases.
Summer Reading Club statistics increased significantly this year. There were
over 800 people who attended 18 programs. There were 225 registrants this
year compared to 85 last year. Circulation statistics increased 25% in July 1997
over July 1996 with 8410 checkouts. June's circulation was 8651 which is the
highest in the history of the Library.
NEW BUSINESS
Mignon announced the Library will be hosting a program on sign language on
August 26.
The Christmas/December Library Advisory Board meeting was discussed, and
Gerry Whitt volunteered to host the dinner. The date for the meeting has not
been set.
