Approval of the Minutes. Minutes were approved as read from the November 9, 1998, Meeting. DISCUSSION ITEMS 2. Discuss Monthly and Quarterly Reports Mignon announced to the Board that the MLS part-time position is vacant again. This will affect the number of reference questions recorded until a new person is hired. The circulation statistics have dropped some, but the patron registrations continue to increase along with in-house usage of reference materials and the internet. Grace inquired about getting an intern from UNT or TWU. Mignon commented that she had tried unsuccessfully in the past. Shirley asked about purging the records. There are approximately 9,000 patron records in the database, and they have never been purged. The staff is purging patrons who have not used their cards. However, most libraries recommend purging records every two years. After some of the old records have been removed, the staff will enter more data on patrons so studies can be done to determine which age groups are being reached. 3. Discuss Long Range Plan and Community Survey presentations for Council. Mignon will prepare a presentation of the Community Survey for the Board in February and the Council in March. The presentation has been tentatively scheduled for March 9 which is Spring Break. Mignon will reschedule it for a later date. NEW BUSINESS There will be a NETLS Geographic meeting on February 4 and a regular membership meeting on February 17. CODI (Customers of Dynix) is February 9 to February 13. Mignon will be attending the conference. Legislative Day is February 23. Information is in the packets on public library legislative issues. Board members were given addresses for legislators and encouraged to contact them and ask for their support on the issues. The most pertinent issue is the establishment of direct aid for Texas Public Libraries. This fund would be used for all libraries to purchase materials and for construction cost. The intent of the fund is to supplement City operating book budgets. OLD BUSINESS ADJOURNMENT The meeting was adjourned at 8:15 p.m.
