11-12-2012 (Library) Minutes 74(• Library Advisory Board CITY OF WYLIE Library Board--Minutes Monday, November 12, 2012- 7:00 pm Conference Room Smith Public Library 300 Country Club Rd., Bldg. 300 Wylie, Texas 75098 CALL TO ORDER Announce the presence of a Quorum. Members present: Mindy Ayers, Shirley Burnett, Timothy McCray, Elaine Sichter, William Whitney, Rachel Orozco (Board Liaison) Members absent: Gerri Washington & Candy Arrington CITIZENS COMMENTS ON NON-AGENDA ITEMS Residents may address Board regarding an item that is not listed on the Agenda. Residents must provide their name and address. Board requests that comments be limited to three (3) minutes. In addition, the Board is not allowed to converse, deliberate or take action on any matter presented during citizen participation. There were no citizens present at the meeting. PRESENTATION Rachel Orozco shared a letter to the Editor written by Jerri Smith and published in the October 31, 2012 edition of The Wylie News with a review of the library events and statistics for the year. Rachel gave the Board a tour of the library webpage and online databases. ACTION ITEMS The Library Board Minutes of Monday, September 10, 2012 were approved as presented. DISCUSSION ITEMS There were no discussion items on the Agenda. STAFF REPORTS Library Grant Update: • TexTreasures—Rachel received a grant for $24,999 and will work with UNT to digitize newspapers from Wylie, Sachse and Farmersville. This process will begin in mid-January, 2013 November 12, 2012 Library Advisory Board Regular Meeting Minutes Page 2 of 2 and is expected to be completed in July. At that time, a presentation will be made to City Council. • Impact—This $10,000 grant will provide Quick Books software for computer classes and allow for additional funds for other business related software and classes as needed. • Special Projects—This grant is $4,830.00 and is in conjunction with the Recreation Center and the Police Department for their Youth Enrichment Program.
