Resolution 75 (03)
RESOLUTION
A RESOLUTION OPPOSING CREATION OF
A STATE UTILITIES COMMISSION AND
SUPPORTING REMEDIAL LEGISLATION
WHEREAS, the 1975 Legislative Session will be
encouraged to consider the establishment of a State Utilities
Corrunission~ and
WHEREAS, there appears to be much emphasis placed
on the fact that Texas remains the only state without state
regulation of utilities~ and
WHEREAS, Texas utility rates are lower than many
states with utility corrunissions and many utility companies
in Texas are more financially secure than those of other
states~ and
WHEREAS, this well-being of Texas residents and
utility companies can be attributed to regulation by local
officials:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL
OF THE CITY OF WYLIE, TEXAS:
SECTION 1. That if legislation, which would remove
local government authority over regulation of utility rates;
is introduced, the City Council of the City of Wylie be shown
on record as opposing the passage of such bills.
SECTION 2. That the City Council of the City of Wylie
does support remedial legislation intended to clarify utility
rates case presentations to local officials, and would prefer
to work with an advisory council rather tlmm abdicate local
authority over utility rate adjustments to a state corrunission.
SECTION 3. That certified copies of this resolution
be forwarded by certified mail to the appropriate Legislative
Officials and to the local news media to inform the public
of the impact of the creation of a state utility corrunission.
UNANIMOUSLY ADOPTED BY THE CITY COUNCIL of The
City of Wylie, Texas, This the 7th day of January, 1975.
