09-09-2013 (Library) Minutes Library Advisory Board CITY OF WYLIE Library Board--Minutes Monday, September 9, 2013- 7:00 pm Conference Room Smith Public Library 300 Country Club Rd., Bldg. 300 Wylie, Texas 75098 CALL TO ORDER Announce the presence of a Quorum. Members present: Mindy Ayers, Shirley Burnett, Gerri Washington, William Whitney & Rachel Orozco (Board Liaison) Members absent: Todd Abronowitz, Dorothy Corbin Brand & Kathy Schwarz CITIZENS COMMENTS ON NON-AGENDA ITEMS Residents may address Board regarding an item that is not listed on the Agenda. Residents must provide their name and address. Board requests that comments be limited to three (3) minutes. In addition, the Board is not allowed to converse, deliberate or take action on any matter presented during citizen participation. No citizens were present at the meeting. PRESENTATION No presentation was given at the meeting. ACTION ITEMS The Library Board Minutes of Monday, July 8, 2013 were approved as presented. The Patron Behavior Policy was reviewed and approved with the addition of the City Ordinance notation. DISCUSSION ITEMS Library Budget FY14 Review: The final budget Council Meeting is tomorrow, September 10 at 6:00pm. The library is not getting additional hours. We did get $2,200.00 to hold a poetry festival and we received a grant of$10,000 to use for online magazines and to order six I-Pads to loan to patrons to use in the library. We will still keep some magazine subscriptions to have available for patrons. Rita Smith included the library in her Will and we will receive up to $5,000.00 per year from her estate. September 9, 2013 Library Advisory Board Regular Meeting Minutes Page 2 of 3 The Federal Grant that funded the computer lab has ended. We are now in transition to utilize Friends money to pay for computer teachers. They have agreed to use the funds made from the sale of the donated books. The next computer classes will begin in October. The compensation study is still ongoing and will be for a few more months. The last time a study was conducted was approximately eight years ago. Depending on where employees fall within the range some may receive salary increases and some may not. STAFF REPORTS Upcoming Special Events: Hula Thursday September 12, 7:00 p.m. Aloha! A dancer from Grace Hula will demonstrate the evolution of hula and give you a chance to try it yourself.
