PRESENTATION UNT Portal to Texas History includes the Wylie News, Sachse Sentinel and Sachse News. The newspapers have been archived and are now available online. The Wylie News was digitized back to its beginning in 1948. Staff is still learning how to use this program in order to better assist patrons. Later this week a link will be put on the website to access this feature. Archiving the newspapers was made possible as part of the Tex Treasurers Grant that we received. However, microfilm continues to be the best and most reliable way to preserve materials today. UNT currently still uses microfilm to archive records. ACTION ITEMS The Library Board Minutes of Monday, October 14, 2013 were approved as written. DISCUSSION ITEMS In regard to the Texas State Library budget cuts Rachel researched our local Senators and Representatives voting records to see how they voted on library budget cuts. The voting is done on large bill packages and not on individual items so she was unable to see exactly how they voted on this issue. November 11, 2013 Library Advisory Board Regular Meeting Minutes Page 2 of 2 Rachel spoke with an advocate for the Texas State Library who advised they are attempting to improve the "maintenance of effort" in order to receive the funding that was cut. She advised the Board she will continue to update them on the status of this issue. Rachel also suggested to the Board that if they are interested in emailing or sending a letter to their representatives to be sure and ask why Lone Star funding was cut. In regard to county funding they reworked their formula and how the money was being disbursed. They also reviewed the unincorporated areas and who was funding them. As a result, funds were shifted in order to allow more to be awarded to some of the unincorporated areas to help support and improve their libraries.
