We haven't been checking out magazines at our new location but did at the old location. ACTION ITEMS The Library Board Minutes of Monday, November 11, 2013 were approved as presented. DISCUSSION ITEMS FY15 Budget: Increase in Hours Rachel and her staff have been discussing a possible increase in hours and how to best utilize a request for an additional two hours. The thought is to modify the current hours and open at 10:00am Wednesday-Saturday which would add some consistency with the opening times. January 13, 2014 Library Advisory Board Regular Meeting Minutes Page 2 of 2 Mindy Ayers offered to draft a letter on behalf of the Board to the City Council in support of the two hour increase. A suggestion was made to request that teens from the Teen Library Council also speak at a Council meeting in support of the additional hours. The Board asked whether it is possible to do a survey at the self checkout stations regarding library hours and their preferences. Rachel will check to see if this is something that can be done. STAFF REPORTS The compensation study was very thorough and was intended to see if salaries city wide were competitive with the market. About fifteen cities including some outside of the metroplex were used for comparison. Raises were only given to staff whose positions were not competitive with the market and will be implemented over a two year period. It appears that eventually staff will be moved to a plan where raises will be given based on performance. Another change as a result of the study creates a new step plan solely for the fire and police staff. Up until now, they were on the step plan with the rest of the city staff. This is a pretty standard practice in other cities. Upcoming Special Events: Storytime resumes its normal schedule this week. Tuesday,January 14 @ 5:00pm: Celebrate Jerri Smith!
