DISCUSSION ITEMS
Rachel reported to the Board that there is not a way to add a survey at the checkout stations for
patrons to complete whey they check out materials.
Rachel asked Donna Shirley to introduce her practicum student, Emma Olmstead Rumsey who
has been with the Library since January and will finish at the end of April. Emily is working on
her Masters in Library Science at Texas Women's University. She has been very busy and has
assisted Nina with World Book Night, Tosho-Kon, prepared flyers and created some surveys for
the Senior Center.
Rachel reviewed the list of publications that library events are sent to. She also reiterated that
while information is sent to the publications they determine what will be printed. The events are

included on the Library Website, Facebook, and the Marquee at the City Hall entrance. In
addition, they are sent to the following publications:
• The Wylie News (Melissa)
• Connection Magazine (Melissa)
• Murphy Messenger (Melissa)
• In & Around Magazine (Melissa)
• Suburban Parent (Melissa)
• Water bill (Craig)
• Neighbors Go (Craig-special events)
• Craig Kelly will write articles about special events and send to media outlets such
as the Dallas Morning News.
Judy Truesdell, from The Wylie News, has been hired as an assistant to Craig Kelly. She will be
able to help with publicity for all City events.
Mindy Ayers distributed the draft letter to the City Council in support of requesting two
additional hours on behalf of the library. A discussion was held and revisions were made.
Rachel provided statistics to be included and will also supply some additional information to
Mindy. Mindy will revise the letter and present it to the Board for final review and signing at the
next meeting. It was proposed that the letter be presented in front of City Council on May 27.
In regard to the mid-year budget amendments Rachel asked for additional hours for part time
staff during the summer. Additional hours were also requested to give a part time person to
assist the library technician due to Laura having surgery and being gone two months. There are
only two people in the department and they process and catalog all new items.
During the summer we will change Monday hours again from 12:00-8:OOpm to 10:00am-
6:00pm. This worked well last summer.
Rita Smith left money for the library in their Catholic Foundation and there is currently
$10,000.00 in the fund. The donation is approximately $5,000.00 per year; however, there are
two years of donation money currently in the fund. The money can't be used to pay staff but can
be used for other items as needed.
STAFF REPORTS
There have been some additional changes in library Staff. Emily Repasky left to attend the
University of Hawaii and came back and we were able to rehire her to take Shawn Frazier's
place. Megan Goode moved from part time to full time in Adult Services and Randall Cross was
hired to work part time. Randall was a volunteer and worked interim when Megan was out sick.
He received his Masters Degree in Library Science from the University of North Texas about a
year ago and has been unable to find full time employment.
