CALL TO ORDER
Announce the presence of a Quorum.
Members present: Mindy Ayers, Shirley Burnett, Gerri Washington, William Whitney & Donna
Shirley (for Rachel Orozco, Board Liaison)
Members absent: Todd Abronowitz, Dorothy Corbin Brand & Kathy Schwarz
CITIZENS COMMENTS ON NON-AGENDA ITEMS
Residents may address Board regarding an item that is not listed on the Agenda. Residents must provide their name
and address. Board requests that comments be limited to three(3)minutes. In addition, the Board is not allowed to
converse, deliberate or take action on any matter presented during citizen participation.
No citizens were present at the meeting.
PRESENTATION
No presentation was held due to absence of Rachel Orozco.
ACTION ITEMS
The Library Board Minutes of Monday, January 13, 2014 were approved as presented.
DISCUSSION ITEMS
A brief discussion was held regarding the mid-year budget amendments due March 17. The
Board was advised this is the time that requests are made for items that are needed and have
come up since the original budget was submitted and approved.
No update was given on surveys at self check-out stations due to absence of Rachel Orozco.
STAFF REPORTS
The Board was advised that a proclamation for National Library Week will be given at the next
City Council meeting on April 8 at 6:00pm.

The Board was also informed about the book fair that will be held at Barnes & Noble on April 12
from 10:00am-5:OOpm and sponsored by the Friends of the Library.
Employee changes were discussed in regard to Emily Plagens taking a position at Allen Public
Library and Megan Goode accepting the full time position as Adult Reference Assistant. A new
employee will need to be hired to replace Megan. Applications are currently being accepted and
the position does require a Bachelor's Degree.
Upcoming Special Events:
Tuesday, March 11 @ 3:30pm: Mad Hatter Tea Party
Celebrate Spring Break at this come and go party complete with games, prizes and crafts in the
Multipurpose and Storytime Rooms. Come in costume as your favorite Alice in Wonderland character or
in your tea party best. Fun geared towards ages 4-9, but all ages welcome.
Thursday, March 13 @ 3:00pm: Teen Divergent Party
Come celebrate the release of the new Divergent movie by dressing up as Tris, Four or your favorite
character for the costume contest. Show off your factions knowledge during the trivia round and be
prepared to test your Erudite skills with games. Prizes include tickets to see the movie! For teens in 6th-
12th grade only. No registration required.
Saturday, March 15 @ 2:00pm: Drawing Workshop with Kristen McGuire
In her two-hour workshop, manga-style comic artist and illustrator McGuire will show tips and tricks for
improving your art. Ages 16 and up are welcome. Registration starts March 1.
English Conversation Club: Monday group starts March 17 at 7:00PM & Wednesday
group starts March 19 @ 11:00AM
The perfect place to practice English after graduating ESL classes and to learn more about the language
and culture of your adopted home. Meetings run for seven weeks. Must be able to read and write English.
Registration starts March 1.
Tosho-Kon @ SPL: Saturday, March 29 from 10:OOAM-3:30PM
It's back! Enjoy a fun-filled fest of all things anime and manga. Call the Help Desk for more details and
registration starting March 1.
