WORK SESSION
• Discussion regarding post 2014 Wylie JazzArts Festival. (Anne Hiney, Chair)
Chair Anne Hiney started discussion for the post JazzArts event work session by reporting that overall
the event was a success and asked for feedback regarding items that could be tweaked to make the
event to be held in 2015 even better.
• Some of the items discussed were perhaps positioning the two stages further apart (City
Hall and Library breezeway) in years to come as the event grows.
• More volunteers and stage hands to accommodate the bands and visitors
• Possibly renting a keyboard, amps, and drums for each stage from a music store or offer
in-kind advertising for the rental and set-up.
• Providing the same quality of staging with covering for both stages.
• Charging a higher fee for bands and growing the amount of bands participating in the
event.
• Designating separate parking (east parking by Library) for band members.
• Starting the event later and having the professional bands start at 6:00 p.m. and run to at
least 9:00 p.m. Professional bands playing for 1 hour each.
• Moving the event to the front of the buildings and/or staging a portion in the back and
front of the complex.
• Clearing the meadow in the back of the buildings to allow staging further back and
vendors in the meadow behind where staging was set up this year. Staff indicated that
the cost to do this would be more that they believed the City was willing to expend at this
time.
• Including unique craft vendors for the event and/or providing an artist competition to
attract more artists.
• Increase the request for hotel funds to grow the event.
