08-11-2014 (Library) Minutes Library Advisory Board CITY OF WYLIE Library Board--Minutes Monday, August 11, 2014 — 7:00 pm Conference Room Smith Public Library 300 Country Club Rd., Bldg. 300 Wylie, Texas 75098 CALL TO ORDER Announce the presence of a Quorum. Members present: Todd Abronowitz, Dorothy Corbin Brand, Shirley Burnett, Gerry Washington, Kenneth Cash, Sandra Stone & Rachel Orozco, Board Liaison Members absent: Mindy Ayers CITIZENS COMMENTS ON NON-AGENDA ITEMS Residents may address Board regarding an item that is not listed on the Agenda. Residents must provide their name and address. Board requests that comments be limited to three(3)minutes. In addition, the Board is not allowed to converse, deliberate or take action on any matter presented during citizen participation. No citizens were present at the meeting. PRESENTATION Welcome new Board Member: Sandra Stone. ACTION ITEMS The Library Board Minutes of Monday, July 14, 2014 were approved as presented. DISCUSSION ITEMS The budget was presented to Council on July 15 and they requested the presentation be revised to include a 6 hour increase in the schedule. We were unable to move part-time staff to full time because of the cost of benefits. However, some of the part-time staff working 20 hours will be increased to 24 hours and some staff hours will stay the same. We were able to add part-time staff as follows: Children/Teen: 2 additional reference assistants & 1 professional librarian Adult: Upgrade current reference assistant to professional librarian and add 1 reference assistant. Circulation: 2 new library technicians & 1 shelver New Library hours will be: • Monday, Tuesday & Thursday: 10:00am-8:00pm August 11, 2014 Library Advisory Board Regular Meeting Minutes Page 2 of 2 • Wednesday: 10:00am-6:00pm • Friday & Saturday: 10:00am-5:00pm The new hours can't be advertised until final approval of the budget by City Council at the meeting on the 2nd Tuesday in September. We would like to use October to hire and train new staff and begin the new hours in November. This has to be approved by Mindy Manson, City Manager. STAFF REPORTS Library Budget FY15 remained flat and has stayed that way since we have opened. We may have increased the book budget 5 to 10% but the other line items have remained flat. Summer Reading Club was very successful and changing program times on Tuesday to 11:00, 12:00 & 1:00 seemed to work very well as they were highly attended. The Teen programs were also successful and had high attendance. Upcoming Special Events: August is planning month for the library. 4th Monday Book Club @ goodreads.com & Booked on Fridays are the only events currently scheduled.
