SENATE RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Article XI, section 5, of the Texas constitution
provides for the adoption by voters of certain cities of charters
for home rule; and
WHEREAS, By virtue of an election held on January 19, 1985,
the city of Wylie in Collin County has achieved home-rule status
and has adopted the council-manager form of government; and
WHEREAS, Named for W. D. Wylie, a railroad agent, the city
was incorporated in 1886 and has since enjoyed nearly a century of
successful municipal government; and
WHEREAS, Located in a rich agricultural area nestled against
Lavon Lake and Lake Ray Hubbard, Wylie in recent years has grown
steadily as part of the expansion of metropolitan Dallas-Fort Worth;
and
WHEREAS, The city is famed throughout the region for its
thriving retail business in ski wear and for its relative proximity
to the site of the Ewing Ranch at "South Fork"; and
WHEREAS. The city council has completed its canvass of the
election and its declaration of the election result; and
WHEREAS. It is therefore appropriate that legislators certify
this change and congratulate residents of the city on the new
status that they have achieved for themselves; now, therefore, be
it
RF.SOr.VF.D. That the Senate of the State of Texas,
69th Legislature, hereby recognize the adoption by the
City of Wylie, located in Collin County, of a charter for home-rule
municipal government under provisions of Article XI, section 5, of
the Texas Constitution; and, be it further
RESOfNED. That the Senate honor the residents on their bold
new venture in self-government and forward official copies of this
Resolution to the mayor and council members as a token of the
Senate's wishes for the continued prosperity of the City of Wylie
and all its citizens.
