RITA & TRUETT SMITH LIBRARY BOARD BOARD MEETING The Library Board of the city of Wylie met in regular session on March 15, 1999. at the Library at 7:00 p.m. The attendees were: Jim Swartz Gerry Whitt Debra Workman Shirley Burnett Tom Proctor Grace Morrison ACTION ITEMS Approval of the Minutes. 1. Minutes were approved as read from the February 8, 1999, meeting. Discuss and Act Upon the Revised Library Code of Conduct. 2. The Board approved minor additions and changes to the Code of Conduct. DISCUSSION ITEMS 3. Discuss Monthly Report. Mignon reported that circulation was down slightly from February 1998. The main reason circulation is dropping is because of increased internet usage. 4. Discuss National Library Week Activities. On April 13, Grace Morrison, Board Member, will present a puppet program. The Library will be hosting a "Read-Aloud" on April 15. The Council, City Manager, and Library Advisory Board will be invited to read a story or poem and share with the audience why you use the Library. In addition, the Library will be promoting TLA's Read for Your Life Campaign. The focus of the campaign is to encourage people to use books in addition to electronic resources. There will be a Internet trivia contest too. The prize will be a gift certificate from Amazon.com. NEW BUSINESS The Library received a grant from the Texas Book Festival. It is for $2500 to purchase reference materials. OLD BUSINESS Mignon asked the Board if there were any questions regarding the letter sent to Elaine Martin. Everyone seemed to be satisfied with the letter and the response from the City Attorney. ADJOURNMENT The meeting was adjourned at 8:30 p.m.
