Library Advisory Board

Grace Morrison called the meeting to order. Grace introduced Robert and Jim
Griffin as new Library Board members.
Members Present: Grace Morrison, Shirley Burnett, David James, Junaid
Najamuddin, Lucy Shriver, Robert Wieneke, James Griffin

DISCUSSION
James Griffin introduced himself. He was on the Bond Committee and has a
background in education and urban planning.
Robert Wieneke introduced himself. He has experience in computers and the
corporate arena.
Each of the Library Board members introduced themselves: Shirley Burnett; Lucy
Shriver; Junaid Najamuddin; David James; Grace Morrison and Library Board
Liaison, Donna Shirley.
Donna Shirley announced that the architect meetings are to be held, Tuesday, July
10 and Wednesday July 11. The Library staff is working with the architects on
the design phase. As many staff as can spare will attend the meetings. Donna
explained that the Library Staff had not seen new designs.
The Library Budget for the next fiscal year will be presented in July. Main
components of the budget: increased part-time hours; upgrade Public Services
Librarian to Public Services Supervisor; and an additional $15,000 for library
materials.
Donna Shirley passed out the Council Agenda for July 24. She encouraged
Library Board members to attend.
Donna Shirley also reminded new Library Board members to attend training on
Thursday, July 12. Grace said to check and see if the training may be taken
online if attendance is not possible.
The Internet Policy was discussed. Changes were recommended by Library
Board members, primarily in wording. A question was asked who approves the
Internet Policy. It was explained that the policy goes through the City Attorney.
'IMPORTS
Donna Shirley announced that Cristen Williams, Children's Librarian, will be
leaving. Her last day is August 6. She has accepted a position with the
Arlington Public Library. Marion Spaink, part-time Library Technician, has
resigned. Her last day is July 16. She is moving to the Netherlands. Both
positions are being advertised.
Summer Reading Club has been successful,thus far. Completion rates: thirty-five
adults have registered; 17 babies have completed; pre-readers completion:
Readers: 1491evel one; 117 level two; 95 level three and 80 level four. Readers:
188 level one; 151 level two; 113 level three; 95 level four; and 30 past level four.
Teens; sixty-three level one; 34 level two and; 19 level three.
The Book Club for the Adult population is a new service. Donna has good
response for the first meeting.
