11-09-2015 (Library) Minutes 74( Library Advisory Board CITY OF WYLIE Library Board--Minutes Monday, November 9, 2015 - 7:00 pm Conference Room Smith Public Library 300 Country Club Rd., Bldg. 300 Wylie, Texas 75098 CALL TO ORDER Announce the presence of a Quorum. Members present: Mindy Ayers, Todd Abronowitz, Shirley Burnett, Kenneth Cash, Karen Adams, Janice Borland & Rachel Orozco, Board Liaison Members absent: Gerri Washington CITIZENS COMMENTS ON NON-AGENDA ITEMS Residents may address Board regarding an item that is not listed on the Agenda. Residents must provide their name and address. Board requests that comments be limited to three (3)minutes. In addition, the Board is not allowed to converse, deliberate or take action on any matter presented during citizen participation. No citizens were present at the meeting. PRESENTATION No presentation was given at the meeting. ACTION ITEMS The Library Board Minutes of Monday, September 14, 2015 were approved as presented. DISCUSSION ITEMS Continue discussion on county funding for libraries from the last Board meeting. Board members had discussed possibly creating a letter to the County Commissioners thanking them for their support for the FY15-16 fiscal year. Confidentiality Policy Review. Rachel briefly discussed the need for a policy. The City Attorney recommends that the library have a policy in place. STAFF REPORTS Thanksgiving Hours: Library will close at 5:00pm on Wednesday, November 25 and will remain closed until Monday, November 30 at 10:00am. November 9. 2015 Library Advisory Board Regular Meeting Minutes Page 2 of 2 Upcoming Special Events: My Very Own Book Club: November 11 & 13 from 3:30-4:30 PM My Very Own Book Club is for 1st, 2nd & 3rd graders. Kids are encouraged to read the book on their own time and then come to the meeting for discussion and a craft. Sign up at the Children's desk. Participation is limited, but all participants get a free copy of the book. • November: 1 will not ever eat a tomato by Lauren Child Retro Game Night: November 12 at 5:00PM Spend the evening playing classic console games. Booked on Fridays: November 13 at 12:00 Noon Bring your lunch at noon the 2nd Friday of each month for fun reads and light conversation. • November: The Martian by Andy Weir Good Yarn Knitting Group: November 14 @ 10:30 AM Knitters of all ages and experience welcome. Bring your yarn and needles. If you're new to knitting, we recommend size 8 (5mm) needles and medium weight (4) yarn. Note: Meeting will be held in the Storytime Room. 3rd Grade Voyagers Club: November 17 from 3:30-4:30PM A learning club just for 3rd graders! Register at the Children's Desk to receive your passport. Space is limited. • November: Meet the Masters and Create on Canvas BeTween Book & Movie Club: November 19 from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM Never judge a book by its movie. 4th, 5th and 6" graders are invited to discuss different books that have movie adaptations. Sign up at the Children's desk. The first 50 kids to sign up get a free copy of the book. • November: Tuck Everlasting by Natalie Babbitt Sensory Storytime: November 21 from 10:00-11:OOAM Let us be a part of your puzzle. For elementary school aged kids (Kindergarten through 4th grade) with sensory integration challenges.
