PUBLIC HEARING ITEMS
1. ZBA No. 2000-5: A public hearing to consider and act upon a request from
Jay and Gloria Delmar for a variance to Section 2.4 of the paving
Standards requiring that all residential driveway approaches be a
minimum distance of 45 feet from the nearest intersecting street, in order
to allow construction of a private residential driveway within the front yard:
this property being located at 900 Foxwood Lane.
ZBA No. 2000-05
Jay Delmar, Applicant, 900 Foxwood Lane, Wylie, Texas appeared
requesting approval of a variance of the required minimum distance
between a residential driveway and the intersecting street in order to allow
construction of a circular drive within the front yard of his residence at 900
Foxwood. Mr. Delmar reported that the front entry is needed in order to
facilitate access/egress by aging mother and mother-in-law who are
planning to move into the residence soon. He provided letters from family
doctors testifying to the limited mobility of the parents and the desirability
of providing adequate entry to the residence.
Claude Thompson, Planner, stated that this corner lot is served by a
side-entry garage and driveway from Castlewood Drive. Currently the rear
yard siding on Castlewood is fenced to the wall of the residence, but
permit has been approved to construct an addition drive and pad on that
side for parking of the applicant's recreational vehicle. At the front yard,
the sloping topography as well as utility connections and a bricked mail
box restrict the location of the proposed driveway further to the east away
from the intersection.
A motion to approve was made by Marilyn Herrera and seconded by
Derek Green. A vote was taken and passed 4-1, Mike Phillips voting no.
ADJOURNMENT
A motion to adjourn was made by Derek Green and seconded by Jeff
McCoy. A vote taken and passed 5-0.
The meeting was adjourned at 7:30 p.m.
