Shirley Burnett was appointed to serve as President for another term. Gerry
Whitt was elected to serve as Vice President for another term.
6. Discuss Monthly and Quarterly Report.
The circulation went down slightly in June. The library broke a record last
June with the highest circulation in the history of the Library. The number of
books that are being returned are increasing due to the ordinance on third
overdue notices. Library fees are increasing too due to heavy patron usage.
6. Discuss Summer Reading Club
The attendance numbers for the Summer Reading Club performances have
sky rocketed. During June of 1999, there were 325 attendees for the special
programs. This year there were 556 attendees. The number of participants
for story times has doubled.
7. Discuss Demographic Study
The majority of the people who were chosen to participate in the focus groups
with the Library consultant were from the east side of Highway 78 which
raised a question about the service population. A study was done to
determine if citizens on the west side of 78 are using the Library as much as
the citizens on the east. A sampling of 500 patrons were used and the study
showed that the usage for both sides of the highway was high. A summary
will be written on the study.
8. Discuss the Library Advocacy NETLS workshop.
The NETLS office is offering a workshop in Grand Prairie on Library
Advocacy. The speaker will be Ellen Miller, a well-known Library Consultant.
Three board members committed to attending the workshop. Mignon
encouraged them to attend.
